The Point of No Return {sequel to The Arbitrary life of Avery Blake [teacher]}11

Start from the beginning

‘OK class, just try and annotate the given poem and then we might go through it as a class.’ I said to my year 12 English class as I walked and sat at my desk.

I watched as Avery eyed me curiously until she realized we held contact and tightened her eyes into a harsh look and looked away.

‘Miss! We need help.’ A couple of the boys said as they attempted to look helpless.

I internally sighed and walked over to them in defeat with Avery streaming my mind.

When it was lunch break, I heard some footsteps approach me as I curiously looked up and met Avery’s more green then blue eyes; where mine were more blue then green.

‘What’s up with you?’ she asked with no hint of sarcasm or hared in her voice, just plain curiosity.

‘What do you mean?’ I asked nicely.

‘You’re being so nice to me lately; it’s not…you.’

‘I’m sorry Avery.’ I said.

‘For what?’ she asked, eyeing me curiously.

‘For everything…’

‘Why? I thought you hated me, I thought you loved Cole, I thought-‘ I cut her off ‘-You thought wrong. I know I’ve been a bitch but I can’t help it… and no, I don’t love Cole, I don’t even like him in that way, it was just… never mind. I just wanted to call truce.’ I said as I held out my hand.

Avery eyed my hand ‘I don’t know what you’re playing at Ms Fletcher, but you’re not fooling me.’ She said as she completely ignored my hand and walked out of the classroom.

I groaned in frustration as I fell into my chair. This was harder then it looked.

Avery Blake’s POV

Kimberly wanted to call truce? P.L.E.A.S.E. She couldn’t just cause all this trouble and expect to get away with it with some phoney truce.

Cole Ford’s POV

I had my head down as I took a walk through the trees near my Cabin as school had just finished. I had so many thoughts streaming through my mind. Then, out of nowhere, I felt something bump into me as I staggered back and looked up to meet Avery’s eyes.

‘Crap, sorry.’ She murmured as her cheeks turned pink. If this was normal times, I would have thought it was cute and embraced her… but it wasn’t. Unfortunately.

‘No, no, it was my fault.’ I said as I rubbed the back of my neck.

‘What are you doing here anyway?’ I asked, trying to sound nonchalant although I was extremely tense.

‘I, uhh, can ask you the same question.’ She said.

I chuckled, or well tried to chuckle at least ‘I live here.’

‘Oh, right. I was just walking.’

Near my Cabin? I felt the urge to ask but thought it best to keep my mouth shut for the time being.

‘Same.’ I said. Silence enveloped us as all means of conversing was over. I was about to break the hideous silence when she surprised me and spoke. ‘I’ve decided what I’m going to do with the…baby.’

My whole body tensed. I opened my mouth to reply but couldn’t think of anything to say.

‘I’m keeping it… no, I’m getting an abortion… no, I’m giving it away… no, I don’t know! Every time I think I know what to do, my mind just thinks of all the cons and then I’m almost positive I’ll do the other thing… I’m just confused.’ She said in defeat.

‘Avery, you don’t have to do this alone.’

‘Yes I do. It should be my decision and I don’t want other people interfering and changing my whole perspective of the situation.’ She said truthfully.

‘Avery-‘ I tried to say as I walked up to her. She stepped back instead. ‘N-no… don’t, please. All I know is I’m not putting it up for adoption because i know what that feels like and I’d rather my m-mum killed me then made me go through all that.’

‘You don’t mean that.’ She looked straight up at me with an emotionless look to her eyes as those words came out of my head. ‘Yes I do.’ She said coldly.

‘If you, uhh, decide to get an a-abortion… do you need me to go with you?’ I asked hopefully.

‘No, Naomi already offered.’

‘Naomi like your counsellor?’

‘Yeah.’

‘Did you tell her about…us?’

‘Cole, there is  no us…anymore, but yes, I did. And before you say anything, she isn’t going to tell anyone, I trust her.’

‘And I trust you.’ I said.

‘Cole…don’t.’

‘Can I ask you a question? And then I swear I’ll leave you alone.’

‘What?’ she whispered as she looked up at me.

‘Do you honestly not love me anymore?’

She turned her head away from me ‘Cole, don’t.’

‘I just want to know.’

‘We can’t be together.’

‘Avery… I, uhh, I think you’re right. I don’t want to risk your education and your future any more than I did. I should have been the adult in all this and I should have stopped it.’

‘Stop it?! What, stop loving me?’

‘That would never happen. No matter what, I will always love you.’ I said as I stopped right in front of her and gently touched her cheek.

Her eyes twinkled as they met mine, once again.

‘No.’

‘No?’

‘The answer to your question.’ She said as she reluctantly ripped herself away from me and waked away in defeat.

I couldn’t believe what I was doing to this girl.

But she still loved me.

There was hope for the future…maybe.

I walked back to my Cabin and saw an unexpected guest at my door step.

‘Kiren?’ I asked hesitantly.

‘Mr Ford…’

‘Kiren, what’s wrong?’ I asked in distress.

‘Do you know how I’ve… uhh, been acting out lately and stuff?’

‘Yes, and you’re a complete idiot for pushing everyone away.’

‘Dude, I’m trying to tell you why!’ he said.

‘Kiren…is everything OK?’ I asked.

‘No.’ he whispered as he fell to the ground on his knees.

I cursed under my breath and knelt down beside him.

I opened my mouth to ask again what the heck was going on when Kiren spoke…but I wish he didn’t.

His eyes were full of tears as he spoke.

‘I-I have cancer…’
