Chapter 18

Caden was awoken to the sound of soft beeping. He was awake but his eyes remained shut.

That beeping had confused him. His alarm? No he broke his alarm. Besides this beeping was softer than an alarm.

He had a pounding headache and felt sore all over. He didn't understand why he felt so bad.

Caden opened his eyes hoping to find out what that beeping was but that was when he was in for a real shock.

He was not in his own home.

In fact it took him a minute to realize where he was.

He was in a hospital..

Caden had never felt more confused but his headache did not help him figure it out anymore.

The room was bland. The walls clearly painted white were faded to an off white color now. The blinds on the windows didn't match either as if two broken blinds were put together to make a new one.

He wanted to get up but he was hurting to much.

What happened to him? The last thing he remembers was sitting in his car driving home.

Then a nurse walked in and he instantly felt more relieved hoping to get answers soon. She was looking down at a clip board and had not looked up yet.

"Ma'am?" Caden called her.

She looked up with a surprised expression, startled to hear him speak. Though before she answered her surprised look turned into a smile.

"Your awake." She noted, stepping closer.

He didn't reply. Mainly because he was not sure what to say.

The nurse was staring at the ratings on the monitor beside him.

He saw a name tag that read, Ann.

"Excuse me Ann but could I ask you something?" Caden politely asked.

She turned to look at him with her same friendly smile.

"Could I ask how I got here and um- what happened?" He didn't understand a thing right now.

She thought about it, wanting to chose her words carefully so she would not upset him.

"I was hoping you could tell me Mr. Rogers. Someone called 911 after finding you had wrecked your car." Ann explained briefly.

"No." He shook his head. "I-I must've fallen asleep." He admitted trying to think back, honestly not wanting to believe he would have done that..

It was silent from Ann. He noticed how her genuine friendly smile turned into a professional one as she gave him questionable side glances. He could tell she thought he was reckless and careless.

"I didn't hurt anyone did I?" Caden has never hurt anyone expect for when protecting someone else. It's his job to rescue people so the thought of hurting someone horrified him and made every part of him feel uneasy.

She could hear the concern in his voice and she felt pleased to know he was sorry for his actions. As a nurse she has seen plenty of people get in situations like him but their not all so sorry and sympathetic.

"No one but yourself Mr. Rogers." She informed him.

"It's Caden." He assured her.

She nodded.

Well obviously she knew his first name was Caden but he was just letting her know it was ok to call him that.

Caden was trying to let it all sink in and Ann politely waited to see if he had anymore questions.
