The Point of No Return {sequel to The Arbitrary life of Avery Blake [teacher]}7

Start from the beginning

‘Nowhere, nothing… just hanging around the edges.’ I said as Avery’s face went into one of confusion ‘Oh, OK…’

‘Why didn’t you come to school today?’ she asked yet another question.

‘I woke up late and then I had a Migraine but it’s gone now.’ I said which wasn’t a complete lie.

‘Why didn’t you text me or something?’

‘I lost my phone.’ I said nonchalantly.

‘Oh, right.’ She said.

‘I have to go; going to go… eat.’ I said, and before she had time to argue, I quickly stalked away; leaving my best friend staring after me at my tracks…

Better to leave her out of my problems; even if it did mean shutting her out completely.

‘Jones… we got some more spliff and Weed if you’re interested.’ Said that dull voice.

‘…how much?’ I asked Jack; the misunderstood, main dealer of the school. Some say he was too old for school and he had just repeated many, many times but of course there was even more rumours like that.

‘The usual.’ He said flatly. ‘So… you in or what?’ he asked it like a challenge.

I was contemplating if I should or not and just when I was about to decline; the reasons for my recent rage, drug-lapse and mood-swings came rushing back to me.

‘Am I usually the one to refuse such an offer Jacko?’

‘That’s mi boy.’ He said as he playfully punched me in the arm and we headed to our spot.

Kimberly Fletcher’s POV

‘Hey there miss!’ a couple of the boys from the school Football team eagerly said to me as I walked past their relaxed group.

‘Well hello there boys.’ I said as I swore I saw some of the boys blush.

I kept walking of course as I was use to this sort of attention.

I looked around and realized there was still a good thirty minutes of light remaining before it began to dull until the dark would fully replace it. I let out a satisfied sigh as I round the corner and stopped in my tracks when I saw her.

Avery was sitting on one of the seats against the wall, hidden from the rest of the school. She wasn’t crying but her back was hunched forward as her head was in her hands.

‘Aw, don’t cry little girl.’ I said as I stopped a couple of steps in front of where she was feeling sorry for herself.

‘Not now…’ she said as she tried to look away from me so I couldn’t see her face.

‘Not now? Oh why the heaven not? I would think this was the perfect time to do this.’ I smirked.

She instantly got to her feet as her face was moist and the tears were still coming (guess I was wrong).

‘I said not now!-‘ she said a bit more harder as she continued ‘-I have enough freaking problems to deal with without you making my life any harder!’

Me making your life harder? Never heard such a thing. What’s wrong with your life? You’re a teenager for god sake… you have good friends and you’re screwing a sex god! I say Suck. It. Up. Princess. Aside from me, your life is perfect.’

‘You don’t know the last thing about my life so don’t you dare say anything about my life or how perfect you think it is. You hate me, fair enough, OK, awesome, although I don’t know what I did; but that doesn’t matter. It still doesn’t mean you have to pay me any extra attention or even think about my life and who my friends are and who I might be screwing! Because the truth is you’re a bitch, an attention seeker, and a freaking careless cow! You have no right to come and make fun of me for my misfortune. You want to laugh at me because my best friend is starting to hate me for no apparent reason? That he’s drifted away from me and can barely look at me? That I have to go to counselling twice a week and talk about the many times I was raped and beaten when I was a child because my parents decided I wasn’t good enough for them so they dumped me and left me? Fine, laugh away!’ she screamed at me.

I was left speechless at her words. But I had to try and grab onto my bitchy façade and do what I could to make sure it didn’t slip.

‘Bitch, attention seeker, careless cow? I’m highly offended.’

‘That’s what you got from all that? You’re pathetic! Congratulations, you’ve just made my life that much harder!’ she yelled at me before running away, leaving me at her tracks.

I cursed under my breath at the surprise of the moments events.

I then dropped to the ground and put my elbows on my knees and then put my head in my hands. This was never meant to happen like this.

After an hour or so of feeling sorry for myself; I got up and straightened out my hair and clothes before walking on.

‘Kimberly!’ I heard as I looked up and realized someone was coming towards me so is stopped and made sure to put on a smile.

‘Yes, Naomi is it?’ I asked.

‘Yes, yes; nice to finally meet you properly. I’ve been looking for you everywhere.’ She sounded very anxious as she spoke.

‘Yes, is there a problem?’ I asked, trying to hide my fear.

‘It’s about Avery.’

Crap.

‘Yes?’ I asked.

‘You might not know this but she has been having counselling with me because of her many problems. And lately, we have been discussing her family.’

‘Her family?’ I asked.

‘Yes, you see she doesn’t know who her family is and it’s kind of a fragile subject but she has informed me she has always wanted to know who her family are and ever since our session this morning, I have been in my office and all about trying to find as much as I could. But the only thing I could find was you.’

‘Oh… what’s that got to do with me?’ I asked, trying to stop the scream that was about to come out of my mouth for being revealed.

‘Kimberly, you’re Avery’s sister.’

And that’s when I screamed!
