I was too afraid to look up to Naomi but luckily she finally spoke.

‘Avery, when I told you before that I feel closer to you then I usually do to the kids I help, I wasn’t joking. I wouldn’t mind being that mother figure in your life… because that’s kind of how I see myself already. I didn’t tell you this before but when I was a teenager… I found myself pregnant and my parents forced me into adoption… of course the father of the baby bailed as soon as he found out I was pregnant and most of my friends left me.’ She concluded.

I looked up to her ‘R-really?’ I asked softly.

She nodded with a sad smile ‘Really.’

‘It must have been tough…’ I said truthfully.

‘It’s OK Avery. Do you want to tell me now, and I promise you I won’t repeat it?’

I hesitated but I knew I shouldn’t hesitate because I knew I could trust her. I let out the breath I didn’t know I had been holding ‘You might look at me differently when I tell you but I know I can trust you or you never would have told me about that… but this year I started liking this…guy… and I found out he liked me too and we started dating. There is kind of an age gap but I love him and he loves me… only Kiren and Meghann and… two other people know and now, I can’t image my life without him.’ I said as I looked up to her with a hesitant look.

‘And… is this “guy” a teacher?’ she asked.

I blushed ‘Y-yeah…’ I said.

‘Is he Mr Parker?’

My eyes widened in shock ‘What? No… why would you think that?’ I asked.

‘Oh… just last time you said something and I just assumed…’

‘Well no, it isn’t him. He has been great to me since all the drama in my life has happened and I guess I’m really close to him but there is nothing romantic between us.’ I said truthfully.

‘Is it Mr Ford then?’

Crap, she had me. But it was kind of obvious as there weren’t really any other teachers that were as young.

‘It doesn’t matter who it is. But you’re not going to tell anyone are you?’ I asked, scared of what she was going to say.

‘It may be against the schools rules but it isn’t illegal because of your age. And Avery, I told you that you could trust me and nothing you said is going to change that. So no, I’m not going to say anything to anyone.’

I smiled at her ‘Thank you so much Naomi… for everything.’

‘That’s what counsellors are for right?’ Naomi joked.

‘So I think that’s it for today’s session-‘ she said as she looked at her watch for confirmation ‘-we’ll continue… I’d say Thursday if possible.’

Two minutes later and I was leaving the Admin Block. The sun hit my skin until a sudden strong breeze brushed up against me and nearly made me fall back.

‘Ouch.’ I heard as I accidently stepped on someone’s foot.

I turned around instantly and came face to face with Kiren.

Kiren Jones POV

‘Oh sorry… Kiren? I haven’t seen you in forever!’ Avery almost screamed.

‘Oh, hello Avery.’ I said with a smile I tried to force as I rubbed my right leg behind my left.

‘Where have you been? What have you been doing?’ she anxiously asked.
