I took that as all the confirmation I needed to eat. I hesitantly bit into it as I occasionally glanced up at him to insure he wasn’t looking.

‘You’re too cute Avery.’ He said.

The rest of the day past awesomely and the night came.

Cole Ford’s POV

Once Avery was in the safety of her room, I went for a walk.

So here I stood, watching from a distance the scene being played out in front of me.

It was hard to tell but it looked as though there was about 10-15 people sprawled out upon the grass area, smoking and sniffing their lives away. And of course, Kiren was there.

This has been the third time I have seen him and it is honestly hard.

The only thing I could think of to stop this was just the thing I was contemplating to do or not to do.

‘Hey! All the teachers you can think of will be down here in 2 minutes if you all don’t scramble!’ I yelled furiously at the teenagers as I slowly approached them. As soon as I got close enough and enough words began to come out of my mouth, everyone began to run.

Kiren looked back at me with a shocked expression before he legged it away. Everyone separated into different directions until it was only me in the deserted area.

I let out a sigh as I ran a hand through my hair and sat down on the moist ground, starring off to the distant dark and the clear, gloomy sky as the coldness and chilliness of the night’s air nibbled at my bare skin.

‘What am I going to do?’ I asked myself out loud as my thoughts centered on Kiren which automatically made me think of Avery.

‘The only thing that there is to do.’ came that voice that made my insides clench in anger and frustration.

I stood up to come face to face with her.

‘What do you want Kimberly?’ I asked, sounding breathless and exhausted.

‘I just came out here to enjoy the view but I guess this makes it all the more exciting doesn’t it?’

‘Have you come to threaten me or Avery again? Or better yet, to announce you leaving the country?’ I asked sarcastically.

‘Well Har, Har, Har-‘ she fake laughed ‘-I am just extremely curious what the school will do to you once they find out you’ve known about this for a while now and you aren’t informing the school. You know Cole, you’re basically handing those foolish and stupid kids the drugs by not getting them the help they need; and by that I mean expelling them.’ She concluded.

‘Kimberly, they are not stupid; foolish, yes but not stupid. They are just misguided and need help. And I haven’t been able to tell the school because I know the school won’t give them a second look and instantly expel them and they don’t need that in their senior year. I was going to try and confront them –separately- and try and get them the help they need. Either that or tell the school but do everything in my power in them remaining here.’

‘And I’m in anticipation mode as I can’t wait to see how you’re going to pull that off. If you are even given the time to pull it off as you aren’t the only one who saw what you saw.’ She said with a fake smile.

‘Kimberly, please. Don’t do this… their future is at stake here.’ I tried to defend them.

‘Well if they are off doing drugs and drinking like that and acting like the junkies they most likely are then I don’t think they have much of a future.’

‘We don’t know that! What if they’re the future prime minister or president and we’re ripping that away from them by not letting them prove themselves.’ I complained.

‘Great Prime minister’s they would be, right? And if they do reach that pathetic goal, I doubt they will be much different than Hitler.’

‘If you personally got to know some of those kids, you would look at it differently. Just promise me you won’t rip their futures away!’

‘I don’t have to promise you anything.’ She said casually.

‘That’s true, but if you had any sense of humanity inside there somewhere then you would promise me.’

‘Oh, how very persuasive that was!’ she clapped.

‘I’m serious.’ I declared.

‘And I am also serious.’ She matched my tone.

‘For the love of god Kimberly! Promise me!’ I said, sounding desperate.

‘I…i… I pr-pro… no sorry, no can do. I’m not saying I’m going to go tell but I’m also not saying I’m not going to tell. Cole, I just love putting you on edge. And you’re going to just have to wait in anticipation to see how far my cruelty extends.’ She concluded as she touched my cheek before walking away.

I groaned in her tracks as I heard her giggle.

‘Mr. Ford? I heard from behind me.

I instantly recognized that voice and rapidly turned around; hoping he hadn’t witnessed any of the moments events.

‘Kiren?’ I asked hesitantly.

‘I’m s-sorry.’ He sulked as I saw his eyes water.

‘About what Kiren?’ I cautiously asked as I hesitantly made my way over to him.

‘I’m a failure! Ms. Fletcher is going to tell the school and I’m going to get expelled! And she should… I deserve it! I’m alone and hated!’ Kiren sobbed.

‘Kiren… you are not a failure! And I will do everything to insure that you do not get expelled. Nobody deserves that and you’re not alone! You have Meghann and Avery and you know you also have myself and Erik.’

He didn’t reply as he wiped away his tears before running away.

I hadn’t the slightest idea what I was going to do.
