Chapter Forty Two - She's Gone Forever

- Madeline's POV -

I pick at my fruit bowl, looking at it aimlessly. Well, it's barely a fruit bowl in my opinion considering only pineapple and mango reside in it. It's almost too hot today as well. For a Friday afternoon, not many people are roaming like usual.

I was getting more and more nervous by the minute. Why? Because I invited Matthew to talk and explain myself. I have no idea how this is going to go or how he is going to react, I just hope that it's more good than bad. I almost feel dizzy and like I am going to throw up, but I try my best to push past the thought of that. I remember that I've actually thrown up here twice, one for drinking too much vodka and the other, because I fainted. What great summer memories. Not.

I hear footsteps behind of me and I think it's Matthew, but when I turn around, it's not him but a familiar face. Speaking of the vodka incident, it's the guy who I took the bottle from. What's his name? Jackson? Justin? Oh yeah - it's Jayce! Now I begin to clearly remember everything.

"Hey," he speaks first, a smirk protruding on his face. "Mads, am I right?" he asks and begin to nod.

"Yeah," I smile slightly, "Jayce, am I right?" I retort and a chuckle comes from him loudly. He nods before licking his lips. He still looks like a typical frat bot in my opinion.

"May I?" he questions, signaling to sit down beside of me. My eyebrows furrow at him for a second out of confusion. He has done this before, so what is he doing now? I push away my confused thoughts and nod for him to sit. "What have you been up to?" he asks, once he fully situates himself on the ground.

"Nothing much," I shrug, slightly confused at to what he wants, "What about you?" I ask, putting a piece of fruit into my mouth. He looks out in front of us, his eyes squinting from the sun.

"Pretty much the same," he answers bluntly, "This place can get boring as fuck," he adds, glancing at me for a spilt second.

I laugh a little, "Tell me about it," I mutter. Don't get me wrong, this is a hell of a lot better than back home, but damn, it's getting too repetitive. I see a faint smile growing on his face.

"Which is why," he turns his head to me, "We're gonna have another party," he says, his eyes full of amusement. I almost choke on my own air when he says this.

"Even after everyone got busted?" I get my voice on the low, just incase. My second point is, why is he telling me? I don't know him at all.

"I mean why not?" he shrugs, pursing his lips, "What's the fun in life without risks?" he asks playfully, however, I know he is being one-hundred percent serious. I shrug at his question. The only risk I have really taken is this whole sneaking around with Martin.

"Why are you telling me this?" I ask the question that is pestering in my mind. His eyebrows furrow confusingly, but he looks almost entertained.
