-PRESENT, A WEEK LATER-

It's been a week since she first arrived at the lair. She's getting used to the smell and the strange noises around her. For Master Splinter? He's quite the cool one. For the turtles? They're amazing in their own way. I feel comfortable around Donnie the most, she thought as they ate breakfast together. Probably because I hang out with him for a little each day. I should probably do that with the others too, then...

"Today, my sons, I will start training with Yin. But-that doesn't mean you guys can take a break." Splinter looked pointedly at Mikey who now looked crestfallen.

"But, Senseiii", he whined. "We haven't had a day off in forever!"

"He's right, you know", Raph replied. "As much of a shock that is."

"Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssseeee?" Mikey gave Splinter 'the eyes'.

Splinter sighed, giving in. "Very well. But tonight you won't be going to the surface: because you'll be training in the sewer tunnels."

"What will we do, Sensei?" Leo asked, tilting his head as he blinked his blue eyes a couple times.

"I haven't thought of what you are to do yet." Splinter stood up, finishing his food. "Come along, Yin. It's time to begin."

"Good luck!" Mikey waved after her.

Yin faced Splinter in the dojo. What will I do today? Her mind is buzzing with all sorts of questions!

"For beginning of training, you will be learning the basics: blocking, punching, kicking." Splinter stroked his beard a couple of times. "You were trained in that, yes?"

"Forced to, you mean?" She raised an eyebrow. "Yeah."

Splinter gave a small smirk at her attitude. "Your soul burns with determination, child. Now-show me what you know."

Yin got into the usual stance and performed what she was forced to know since the age of eight. "I just know the boring stuff."

"But you'll soon learn much more. That was very good, but make sure you stretch and relax. Don't be so stiff. A ninja must always be relaxed and flexible when he needs to be. Or she."

"Yes, Sensei", Yin nodded. "Hey, random question, but...April said something about getting a weapon. When will I get mine?"

"When I think you are ready", he replied. "Again!"

She did that nonstop for a half hour! But Yin did find herself doing them more quickly and smoothly.

"See? Already doing better", Splinter said, clearly pleased. "Five minute break."

"Okaythankgod." Yin fell back and stared at the ceiling. "Phew...!"

Splinter came over and stared down at her, chuckling. "Let me go get you some water."

"Thanks...!" Yin panted, trying to get her breath back.

Since she gets to be alone for a few minutes, Yin finally gets a chance to explore. Huh, a tree growing perfectly fine. She gets up and walks around. A picture catches her eye on a shelf that Splinter has set up. That must be him when he was a human, his wife and daughter.

She carefully picked it up with both hands, her fingers running across the wooden frame.

"That was my family."

"Ah!" She caught it just in time before it hit the floor. "Sorry...!"

"No need. I don't mind." He handed her a cup of water.
