Today was the day.

A day you had been looking forward since your seventh year of life. Not literally, but it's been a dream of yours for as long as you could remember.

A month long trip, solo backpacking across several European countries.

You were excited, of course you were. But you were also terribly anxious and scared. The whole drive to the airport was just torture for you, as you tried not to breakdown every few seconds.

Natasha tried to lift your spirits. She played 80s music to bop your head to, she tried to make conversation despite her grand desire to just go back to sleep.

She gave up eventually, and the rest of the drive was silent.

After finding the right terminal and paying for parking, it was time to go in. You were a walking ball of nerves, wondering if this trip was really a good idea.

This was your very first solo trip, you never went away this far from home for so long before. You had every reason to be nervous however it felt like you weren't supposed to be.

This was exciting right?!

Right.

Natasha walked you all the way up to the security. She couldn't go any further much to your dismay. "Well... this is it. I can't go further than this." She said. She watched as tears welled up in your eyes and as one made its way down your cheek. She immediately reached to wipe it away and cupped your cheek when she was done. "Oh, Y/n."

"I don't think this is a good idea mama." She mumbles, still trying to keep your tears at bay but it was clear with your shaky voice that all you wanted was to cry.

"You have a little bit of time, let's go buy you some breakfast hmm?" You nodded at her words and let Natasha guide you to the nearest Pret. "What looks good?"

"Nothing."

"Fine, then I'll choose for you." Natasha was talking to the cashier but you couldn't hear her. You were in a sort of daze, you were there but not really at the same time.

You were pulled back to reality when Natasha pushed a chocolate muffin in your hand with a smile and you accepted it. She handed you a coffee as well and you were most grateful as you were already tired. Waking up a 4:30am for a flight is no joke and you still had a while before you could allow yourself to fully rest.

After finishing breakfast, you walked back to security. You couldn't stall anymore. You had to go. But your feet couldn't move, you were stuck to the ground. "You gotta go Y/n." Natasha pushed you towards the gates a little bit in a form of encouragement to take your first step but it had the opposite effect. You turned to look at her, tears now freely falling down your cheeks. You didn't care anymore.

Natasha was never a very touchy person so hugging was hard sometimes for her but she didn't even hesitate for a second and she wrapped her arms around you, pulling you into her.

You cried in her shoulder as her hand at the back of your head kept you there. The other was rubbing your back slowly. "Make sure to text me when you embark, when you land- Just text me."

Pulling away was hard for the both of you but as time went by, you really needed to get going.

"Bye... I love you so much."

"Bye mama, I'll see you in a month."

You turned around and walked. You didn't look back because you knew that if you did, you wouldn't have been able to leave. You went through security with tears in your eyes. The staff was indifferent, clearly this was a recurring thing that didn't surprise them anymore. You still received some dirty looks from elder people but you couldn't care less.

Spotify shuffle decided to be a bitch and didn't spare you as slipping through your fingers, fine line and also scott street played one after the other, leaving you a bigger mess than you already were.

You calmed down a bit once you were in your seat on the plane. But the waterworks started once again as the plane took off. You wanted nothing but to undo your seatbelt and get off the plane but it was too late now.

You knew that if you ever wanted to come home at some point, that Natasha would jump on the first quinjet she could get her hands on to come get you but you needed to do this.

So, you dried your tears and focused on what was to come. You were on your own now.
