A Long Walk on a Fall Day

On a beautiful autumn day,

I set out on foot with a friend that day.

Where we're going, he wouldn't say.

Make sure you have comfortable shoes

Is all he would say.

We set out toward the centre of the city,

On a trail not unknown to me.

We walked through the woods,

On that sunny morning,

But no deer did we see.

Finally, he said to me,

The destination means a lot to me.

But you may like it too.

There will be something there for you too.

That just increased my curiosity.

Hours later, we're eating and drinking,

On the other side of town,

In a building where he'd started work,

When he was only twenty-two.

As for me, food glutton that I am,

I had my moment too!
