Corporation and the Nation

Long ago, when people lived in harmony,

There was no you and me, only community.

People lived for the good of family and society.

North America's native peoples lived this way.

They lived modestly, with ancient technology,

In Nature harmony, practising true Democracy.

The colonizers brought many things new:

Novel technology and a new world view,

Upsetting the old order that provided stability.

The Corporation was new,

And a game changer too;

A legal creation without body and soul.

It exploited natural resources belonging to everybody,

And did so inequitably and irresponsibly.

It brought the end of Nature harmony.

It gained more and more rights daily,

And used them to exploit and enslave society,

And to severely scar Mother Earth knowingly.

The Corporation polluted what we breathe,

What we drink and what we eat:

All that is essential for life on Earth.

It did all this with no regret.

Profitability is its only object,

Not the common good we expect.

It became the scourge of society,

Mother Earth's enemy,

And hijacker of Democracy!

Some did well by the Corporation,

At the expense of the vast population,

Who bear the daily pain of exploitation.

Is there a road back to sustainability?

Is there a road back to a caring community?

Is there a road back to Democracy and equality?

The answer is yes to all three.

It requires a course correction,

And action from you and me.

Replace Corporation with the monoliths built by the robber barons of the 19th century (eg: Carnegie, Vanderbilt and Rockefeller) and those of today's robber barons (eg: Bezos, Musk and Zuckerberg).
