The Games People Play Today

The world has changed.

That's nothing new, you say,

It changes every day.

Yes, what you say is true.

But today's changes are out of the blue.

They fly in the face of me and you.

There's something else too.

Today's rules are for the poor.

But not for the power-full.

That's nothing new. you say,

They've always held sway;

Why so much dismay?

I hear what you say.

They've always had their way,

But now they act with impunity.

Life has become a game, you see,

Much like Monopoly:

So popular it used to be.

But not today.

It's no longer fun to play.

It's too true to life today!

Look at the price of gas today.

It went up forty cents from yesterday,

Even as crude prices dropped the previous day!

Look at drug prices too.

They skyrocketed overnight too,

Some by a thousand percent: who knew?

And the Government,

What did it do?  You say.

It looked the other way!

It left the poor in the lurch,

Without affordable health care.

It did it without even a care!

Government is not for you and me.

It's for drug makers and oil companies,

To enjoy subsidies and powerful monopolies!

That's the games people play today.

Monopoly is a real-life game today:

Not the make believe of yesterday!
