"Julia, wake up," a little voice commanded as I was slightly rocked back and forth. My eyes slowly opened and was greeted to Aimee grinning at me.

"Good morning sweetheart," I grumbled slightly. I peered over at the clock on the nightstand that read eight in the morning. I hoped Ryan had gotten over our little misunderstanding, I grabbed my phone and turned on my phone to check my text messages when Aimee caught me off guard.

"Do you live here now?" she asked.

This earned a slight smile as I sat up in the bed. "No. I just spent the night." Aimee pouted. I could tell by her face she didn't like the answer. "Are you hungry?" I asked deciding to change the subject.

The little girl's eyes grew big as she nodded. "Yes."

I couldn't help but chuckle at the girl's reaction. I climbed out of the bed and stuffed the phone in my pocket before I took her by the hand. "Well, I guess I better make you breakfast."

"I want toast and eggs please."

I couldn't help but chuckle. " I think I can do that," I told her.

"Why is daddy on the couch?"

The question caught me off guard as I looked over to Alex who was sleeping in nothing but some shorts. My eyes lingered as I admired his chest. I quickly stopped my mind from wandering. What was I doing? He was my best friend's ex boyfriend and I was trying to make things work with Ryan. He was the man for me and I needed to remind myself of that. "Do you want jelly on your toast?" I asked Amy deciding to divert the question. I wasn't sure how to even answer her question.

Aimee nodded as she crawled into the dining room chair. "Grape jelly." I went into the cabinet to fish out a pan so I could start making a big thing of eggs so I could feed everyone at once. It was the least I could do after Alex saved me from a I told you so from Kayla. As I fished the eggs from the fridge, Aimee groaned. "Can I watch TV?"

I looked over at Aimee as she swung her feet in the chair. It was obvious she was already bored. I grinned softly. "Yes, but don't wake your daddy."

"I won't," she said quickly with glee as she jumped from the chair and made her way into the living room.

I continued on making breakfast. I was going to make some bacon, but it didn't look like he had any on hand. So, I just went with a basic breakfast and hoped they liked it.

I pulled my phone from my pocket as I made breakfast and noticed that I had two missed calls from Ryan and three from Kayla along with five text messages.

Kayla 11:00 pm: Where are you? I thought you were with Ryan.

Kayla 11:01 pm: Ryan and I are worried about you.

Kayla 11:06 pm: He said you were with Alex when he last saw you. Are you with Alex?

Kayla 11:07 pm: I thought we were friends. How could you do this to me?

Kayla 11:09 pm: I knew you always wanted him. How dare you? You hurt me. So, I'll hurt you.

I stared dumbfounded at my phone. How could she think I would ever stoop so low to sleep with her ex boyfriend. We had been best friends for years. I would never cross that line and I thought she knew better than that. I picked up the phone to call her, but was quickly interrupted. "Did she talk you into making breakfast?"

I nearly jumped out of my skin. I spun around and there stood Alex only a few inches from me. My face felt flushed. No wonder Kayla might have gotten the wrong message. As the toast sprung up from the toaster, I took this as a 'save by the bell' moment and walked over to the toaster. "No. I diverted the conversation when she got sad when I told her no I wasn't living here now," I told him as I put in the last four slices of bread.

Alex chuckled. "She is always full of questions. She's just at that age."

"Speaking of questions," I said finishing up the last of the scrambled eggs. "After we finish breakfast, will you please drop me off at home? I have to clear things up with Kayla," I mumbled.

Alex's eyebrow arched looking at me questioningly. "What's going on?"

I sighed thinking it was only fair I told him since it was obvious Kayla took heartbreak to the extreme sometimes. "It seems Ryan went over to my house last night," I began as I walked the plates over to the table then going over to the fridge to get the jelly. "I don't know what he said to her or why he went over there in the first place, but now she thinks there's something going on between us. I just don't want her mad at me."

I turned around and met Alex face to face. I couldn't read him. "Okay. Let me call the sitter."

"Why are you calling the sitter?"

"So I can go with you in hopes I can help Kayla see reason." I was shocked by him wanting to face Kayla again. Especially since she had destroyed his plates the last time they were face to face. Maybe it was because she wouldn't be at his house this time. Either way, I figured maybe it would be him to make her see the truth.

"Aimee breakfast."

It didn't take long before Aimee's sitter showed up. She didn't want me to go, but I told her I would come visit her again. This seemed to satisfy her before she let me go.

When I got home, I didn't see Kayla anywhere. It made me wonder if she was even at home. "Kayla? Are you home?" I called out.

No answer came. Maybe she had gone out last night to drink her sorrows away when she got into her head that Alex and I were messing around now. I had seen her car outside before coming in with Alex right behind me, however. So, that made think maybe there was a chance she had made it home and was sleeping her hangover off.

"Kayla, we need to talk," I said as I opened the guest bedroom door. That's when my heart sank.
