The first semester of school wasn't bad honestly. I was keeping up with all my classes and, i made it on the team. I was missing home a lot though and jae was feeling the same way.
Neither of us have been away from our families this long. Luckily, we were on fall break and we planned to visit home. Both our families decided to throw a little party and it was great.
Nothing over the top. "yo pops!" i said happily once i was my grandpa. "son! you're alive" he joked causing me to nod. "barely, but i'm here" i said with a proud smile. "mari!" amelia shouted while running over to me.
She had grown a lot since i last saw her. "hey lil mama. you ain't so little anymore" i said as she giggled. "you have a beard?!" she exclaimed while touching my face. "you like it?" i asked, chuckling when she nodded.
"hey sweetie" jaeda said from behind me. When i tell you, her face lit up like a christmas tree. "jaeda!" she screamed, reaching out for her. I was glad that they got a long but damn that hurt my feelings.
"you've grown so much!" she exclaimed while picking her up. "oooo girl got heavy too" she mumbled causing me to chuckle. "i'm so happy you guys can visit" ma said happily, giving us both hugs.
"eww since when did you grow a beard?" she asked causing me to gasp. "i like my beard" i mumbled, rubbing my chin. "no you look too grown, shave it" she said causing me to chuckle.
"ma c'mon. we both know 12 year old amari is screaming right now" i said while placing my around around her shoulders. I sighed loudly once i saw pa walking towards me. "good luck" ma said before walking over to jaeda's mom.
"you came back! ready for the courthouse yet?" he asked. "we've been through this already pa, i'm not doing law" i said, seeing him sigh. "when will you finally come to your senses?" he asked as i looked down at the beer in my hand.
"mari c'mere. there's someone i want you to meet" jae said while holding my hand. "i'm talking to my son" pa said sternly, jaeda's smile fading. Pa started to like jaeda after the whole gabriella situation, but after ma told him why she loved jaeda so much, he started to resent her again.
That, and i also kind of chose to be with her at duke extremely fast, i didn't even talk to him about it.
We both tried to change his view but he just never liked her. Either way he had to deal with it because as long as i'm around she'll be around. "oh i'm sorry, i didn't- it's aight." i cut her off, wrapping my arm around her waist.
"who do you want me to meet?" i asked. She directed me outside and i saw kennedy talking to someone in a wheelchair . "nana this is amari" jaeda said as i smiled. "oh good gracious! she never stops talking about you" the lady said, reaching out to hold my hand.
