Max's pov

I woke up to extreme pain from every part of my body. I couldn't even open my eyes cuz the mere movement was enough to cause  searing pain to erupt everywhere

The last thing I remembered was getting to my dressing room after the fight and then everything went black

Eventually I managed to open my eyes and the first thing I noticed was that I was in my actual house which led to the assumption that someone brought me here, back to where it all went wrong

I tried to sit up but the glaring pain didn't let me, I groaned in pain and laid back down

I felt movement beside me and I looked to my right and saw Veronica stirring from what must have been a deep sleep as she looked at me with sleepy eyes and then her eyes widened

"You're awake " she whispered and then she hugged me tightly and I gritted my teeth because it was pure and unbridled pain that shot through me

She must've felt my body tense because she quickly let go with a guilty look

"Shit, sorry. You're badly hurt " she sighed sadly and I looked at her wondering when she got there, or how she knew. I'd thought she wouldn't even care after what happened and I was pretty sure that the others were responsible for taking me home and her staying here with me

"I'll go call the others, they'll be here in a bit " she said and left the room

I used that opportunity to force myself into a sitting position, clenching my teeth and suppressing the pained groan that wanted to come out.

Everything hurts, it hurt to move, it hurt to think, it hurt to even breathe. I was painfully conscious of how hard it was to take breaths which led to the conclusion that I had some broken ribs

I wouldn't be surprised, the force of the hits from those brass knucks was more than enough to break anything it came in contact with

Veronica came back in a couple minutes later

"What are you doing? You need to lie down, you have broken ribs and I hope to God no punctured lungs. Lay back down, Max " she ordered and I simply looked at her blankly

"Why are you looking at me like that? " she looked confused

I shook my head and moved myself and tried to get off the bed but she held me back by my shoulders

"Max are you trying to make your injuries worse?! Why won't you just lay down? Where are you even going? " she yelled, frustrated.

Due to the pain that I felt shooting through me, I let her lay me back down on the bed and frowned

I needed to get back to my safe place, seeing her only reminded me of all the pain I'm trying to forget

She looked at me as I looked away, distracting myself with anything and everything imaginable

She sighed

"Max, I know I hurt you but can't we just move on from this and be friends? " she asked quietly

I looked at her trying to figure out if she was serious.

She still wanted to be friends, despite everything

The pain was growing, it got more intense and my heart was hurting but I knew that for me to do what needed to be done successfully, she needed to be at peace

So I looked at her for a few moments before slowly nodding

She smiled that angelic smile that even now, still melted my heart and she gave my hand a squeeze
