It was Saturday, so you started the day by calling your mom.

"Hi mom." you greet her once she picks up.

"Hey sweetie. How've you been?"

"Good. School is kinda stressful but it's maintainable." There was no way you were gonna tell her about the whole fake relationship thing. At least, not yet. "How about you?"

"Oh I'm so sorry. I'm good over here."

"Don't be sorry. It's just normal school stress."

"Well, I wish I could help. You know, the option is alway-"

"I'm staying here mom." you cut her off. No matter how chaotic things here get, you want to finish the year.

"Okay okay. I won't bring it up..." She trailed off as if she had something else to say, so you give her the time to speak. "So, Daisy stopped by the house."

"Oh yeah. She told me. She didn't know I was gone, right?"

"Yeah, but that was just the first time..."

'first?'

Your mom continues.

"She has been visiting regularly." You sensed a sadness in your mother's voice. You hated hearing her like that.

"Is there something wrong? Is everyone alright?" you anxiously ask.

You haven't texted Daisy since the first day she texted you. You just assumed it was her usual antics, either wanting something from you (but what could she want from you if you're this far away?) or she was just bored and wanted to bother someone. Lucky you, that someone was always usually you.

But considering the tone of your mother's voice, you think it's something else. 'but what could break Daisy? She's always so happy and bubbly...'

"Well, usually she comes over to talk to me. She's been going through some family troubles." your mom informs you. "I think her parents are going to file for a divorce."

'what. But... but... her parents seemed so happy last time I saw them... I mean, it has been months... maybe even a year... but still!'

"The first time she came over looking for you, she had tears in her eyes and was out of breath. I think she ran all the way here." your mom says.

"But, aren't our houses like, 7 kilometres apart?!"

"Yeah, that's the worrisome part... She ended up sleeping in your bed that night..."

You sit there, on your bed, in silence. You were completely shocked. 'how could this have happened? Daisy is such a positive person, I didn't know anything could get her down, let alone have her completely break and run away from home.' You get lost in your thoughts and your phone nearly slips out of your hand.

"I-... I need to call her today."

"I think that's best sweetie. You should call her right away."

"Yes. I will."

"Bye. We'll talk more next week. Love you."

"K. Love you too."

You hang up and take a second to process the new information and try to compose yourself. You were so shaken up about what she said, but you knew it would be best to be in a calmer, more reassuring state before calling Daisy. You needed to be there to comfort her, not stressing her out more.

You decide to get some breakfast before you call. 'maybe that will calm me down a bit.'

You make your way downstairs and see your aunt making some oatmeal and cutting up some mangoes, strawberries and apples. 'weird combo, but ok.'
