Paul: *sighs* When Reggie and I were younger, we lived with our mom, who was extremely ill, and our dad, who... wasn't the nicest person...
Reggie: While we were growing up, we had to help out our family a lot. From doing laundry to making dinner... Well, you get the idea. Our father... took advantage of that and made us work 24/7
(A)Bonnie: He sounds really mean!
Paul: Heh... Calling him "mean" is pretty generous...
Jamie: What do you mean by that?
Reggie: Well, we had forest near our house. When we weren't working, we would usually play there. That where we met Elekid, remember Paul?
Electivire: Ele! Elect!
Paul: *chuckles* Yeah, I remember. I promised to make you my starter, and I kept to that promise *frowns* But... That's when the real pain began...
Me: W-what do mean by that...?
Reggie: We wanted to have Elekid live with us. Dad was completely against it, but mom let us have our way. Things were fine until she passed away about a year later...
Paul: That's when dad decided put Elekid through so much physical pain... It almost...
(A)Dawn: Paul...
Electivire: E-el...
Reggie: That's when we decided to take Elekid back to the forest, after healing to of course, and started meeting it in a secret spot... That went on until I was finally able to go on a journey of my own

Young!Paul: You're finally able to go on your journey!
Young!Reggie: Yep! And I'm train up to become strong enough to defeat the Battle Frontier and become a Frontier Brain! And... *puts hand on Young!Paul's shoulder* I'm gonna become stronger... for the both of us
Young!Paul: Really?! You promise?!
Young!Reggie: I promise. And I never break my promises

Paul: Since then, I would watch Reggie's matches whenever he was in a Pokémon league. He won most of them, and when he called to me he was going to take on the Battle Frontier, well, you can't imagine how excited I was...
Ash: I don't get it. I know your dad treated you horribly and hurt Electivire, but what made you treat your Pokémon so harshly? You didn't seem to change a bit, even after all of that
Paul: Whenever I watched one of Reggie's matches, dad was always there, saying how Reggie wasn't good enough, or how he was too weak, even when he won an entire tournament. I'd always tell him that Reggie wasn't weak, and that I would someday be as strong as him... That got me a few slaps to the face...
Reggie: Paul...
Paul: One day, Reggie called to check in on me, but also...
