You're the daughter of Jeremy Gilbert and the beloved Bonnie Bennett

I'm Y/N Anne Gilbert-Bennett. I start sophomore year tomorrow. My dad, Jeremy, will be here soon to take me on our morning run before our sparing session. He wanted to make sure I could always defend myself. My mom, Bonnie, said we would be having a special dinner after school tomorrow. That I'd learn some real family history. I was excited and couldn't wait.

I put my journal down and looked at the time. 5:13. He's late. My dad is never late. Not for our runs and definitely not when we have a sparing session pending. I got up and walk out of my room and down to my parents room.

I knocked on the door. Opening it when I hear mumbling. My mom sits up rubbing her eyes confusion clear in her face.

"What's going on babygirl?" She asks as she checks the time.

"Where's dad? He didn't come get me for our run." I walk over to her and sit next to her.

She takes my hand and kisses it. "Oh babygirl I'm sorry. We didn't get to tell you last night; you were already asleep when we found out. Your dad had to go to New Orleans on some business. He should be back tomorrow night babygirl." She pulls me into her arms.

I cuddle into her chest. "It's okay mommy." I mumbled.

"Wanna sleep with me a little longer?" She kisses the side of my head.

I nod and we both lay down me kicking off my shoes. She pulls me close to her chest and plays with my hair.

"I love you so much babygirl." She kisses my forehead.

"I love you too mommy." I close my eyes and wrap my arms around her.

As much as I was a total daddy's girl I had an even softer spot for my mom. No one can make me laugh harder than her. No one can make me smile like her when I'm sad. Cuddling with my mom like this always had me sleeping like a baby.

I spent the rest of the day just hanging out with her. She began telling me a lot about her Gramms and all the stuff she would do with Aunt Elena and Aunt Caroline. She said I'm the only one that's attending their Alma Motter, Mystic Falls High.

My cousins all attend the Salvatore Boarding school. Stephanie started going there a year or so ago. I also have Lizzie and Josie. Technically they're not my blood cousins like Stephanie but they're still my cousins. I just don't really know them. Aunt Caroline is always traveling so they've been at the school since it open when they were five. They're dad is the headmaster, Uncle Alaric.

It didn't bother me that I didn't go to school with them. I had my friends and I also didn't like the idea of living away from my parents. I'd probably get fat without my dad always training with me. I'd also miss my mom like crazy. Just our conversations and how she was always there waiting to hear about my day when I got home.

So when I got home, to find my mom frantic, from my first day of school I knew something was wrong.

"Mom?" I call as she turns to look at me. "What's going on?"

"Babygirl..." her eyes well up with tears and I can't help but start to cry too. I knew something was desperately wrong because she never cries in front of me.

"Where's dad, mom?" I say my voice shaky.

"I'm going to find him and bring him home babygirl. I promise." She rushes over to hug me.

I let out a sob. My dad. The strongest man I knew. He was missing? How could that be? He taught me how to track. How could he possibly be lost?

"I can help you track him." I look at my mom.
