150 | Hour Twenty-two

47 9 9

we started walking toward the beach
it was quiet

where is everyone?

Jared asked

napping for the afternoon

you're kidding right?

no, they close their shops for a few hours
and come back around three

what a life

yeah, well they stay open practically all night
there's no real "hours" per se
it's a lifestyle
if it's a quiet night they close shop

that's why this country is a mess
Greece has been in an economic crisis since 2010

I know, Jared

you do know that it was the biggest financial rescue of a bankrupt country in fucking history

you do know Greece is known
to create history

I was annoyed

he grabbed my hand

why are you getting mad? you're only half-Greek

what the fuck?  i never knew my dad
my mom raised me, she was Greek

he looked at me and smirked

i am merely being realistic

and arrogant
I pulled my hand away

I have to go to the bathroom

now?

I forgot to go

how could you forget to go to the bathroom?

I don't know

I turned on the handicap ramp of Cafe Vino

I'll be right back

I went into the cafe
saw Kosta and waved
too angry to talk to anyone
when I  came back
Jared was on his phone
texting someone

sorry babe, I need to do some work
i got an email. Can we sit here for fifteen minutes?
we can grab another coffee and snack?

Sure, I mumbled, frustrated.

He was already walking in
i followed behind
he sat down
without even looking up at me
he said with an all-knowing attitude
still texting

you should never walk on a handicap ramp
by the way,
it's disrespectful.

I sat down in front of him
feeling like a complete fool
first for the country
then for not going to the bathroom
and finally for walking

my mom and I would
walk on ramps
on streets
on roads
on paths
on gravel
on bridges
knowing full well
that if we ever saw anyone
disabled anywhere
we would push their wheel chair
if they needed help.
