Two Weeks Later

“Alright Dessiah the main goal is for you to take this opening to another level. The gentlemen we’ll be doing business with for their products to be sold are not used to conducting business with a woman. So it’s your job to be sharp and intact.”

“I understand.” Dessiah looked at Shandon from across his desk. He had been critical in making sure she was beyond prepared for her trip. They had spent countless hours together working day and night so that she would be able to handle the tasks set for her. From knowing how to greet Japanese business partners to accepting business cards with both hand face up. How she should dress and respond. Japanese culture is all about respect and honor for one another. Like if a company needs you to work overtime you just do it for the need of the company no questions. If you even considered asking for overtime it would not only be rude, but an insult.

Dessiah was overwhelmed with the information she had taken in and fearful that she couldn’t meet the expectation Shandon had for her. With every bit of information she had been given, her confidence shrunk from within. Dessiah was expected to open a two stores, one for electronics and the other for groceries yet make it culturally acceptable. Unless you’re an American Franchise like 7 eleven or McDonalds and many others than it’s not that hard to bring to another country with acceptance. But Simmons & Son was family owned grocery Chain who decided they wanted to branch out into electronics as well. This would definitely be a challenge.

However Shandon had been surprisingly supportive but still hard and distant so she chose not to read into it. Working closely with him she observed that he prided himself on being professional which meant emotions were left at the door.

“Look I know it’s getting late so why don’t we call it a night.” Shandon said standing from his chair to stretch. His button up shirt sleeves were rolled up and lavender tie was loose around his neck. The tattoos on his forearm were visible and for some reason that Dessiah couldn’t understand; arousing. His suspenders were attached to his navy blue slacks and his Burberry Cologne had been tickling her nose the whole night. At one point she had stepped out to use the restroom and came back to the scent fresh in the air. Dessiah had wondered if maybe she smelled bad and he was trying to tell her something. There is no way she would believe that he sprayed himself because being around her seemed to make him sweat profusely for reasons he didn’t even understand.

“That would be great.” She stood from her chair with notepad in hand. Turning she reached for her briefcase.

“So how are you going to spend your last night here?” Shandon asked. Bent down she looked at him over her shoulder. “I mean if you don’t mind me asking” He added.

“No I don’t mind. I’ll be spending time with my daughter and best friend. We’re having a slumber party at my house.”

“How old is your daughter?” He asked collecting files off his desk.

“She’s five going on forty two, here’s a picture of her.” She handed him her phone and when hands touched a jolt of electricity passed through them causing their eyes to lock. “This is her at home. She was dancing and smiling. When she saw me getting my phone to take a picture I said okay smile, then she did this.” Shandon smiled at Delaney standing with her hands on her hips, leg kicked out, and serving major face.

“Haha she’s absolutely beautiful and definitely a character.” He handed her back the phone.

“That she is and I don’t know where she gets it from.”

“Where’s her father?” Shandon asked coming around to sit on the edge of his desk. Dessiah stiffened at the question and sadness crept across her face as her eyes avoided him.

“Dessiah I’m sorry it’s none of my business I-..”

“It’s okay Shandon… it’s just… well I honestly don’t know where he is.” She answered quietly. “I should go.”  Shandon stood and walked over to her.

“Let me help you with your coat.” He opened the coat for her and watched as she put each arm in its sleeve. He had this urge to kiss the nape of her neck.  WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON WITH HIM? He thought to himself to shake it off until she turned around and was so close that her breasts were against his chest.

“Dessiah I was out of line to ask you something so personal and I apologize.” Her beautiful brown dough eyes looked in his and she simply said “It’s okay.” There was a silence as the sounds of their breathing were the only things to confirm they weren’t going deaf. Shandon took a step back and she slowly moved to the door.

“Would you like for me to walk you down stairs?” He asked grabbing the door open for her.

“No that won’t be necessary I’ll be fine. So I’ll see you tomorrow at the airport right?”

“Yes 9 o’clock sharp.”

“Okay, well goodnight Shandon.” She smiled sweetly.

“Goodnight Dessiah. He watched her walk to the elevator not closing the door until she was out of sight. He cursed for not being in control of himself around her and made a mental note to remain professional by any means necessary. He had no time for shenanigans because he worked too hard to be in the position he was in. Anything or anyone that would make him compromise his professionalism is definitely something or someone he would distance himself from, and this would be no different.
