*Lyfe Jennings Will I Ever*

Detrick sat against the window of his living room watching small beads of water roll down the glass. Music played in the background providing a soundtrack to his thoughts. He hated to admit but he felt extremely lonely. It would take no effort at all to go out and find a 24 hour companion to bring home and never call again, but he wasn’t looking for something to just satisfy his physical needs, he longed for something deeper. Everyday Detrick battled with his need and desire to be in a loving committed relationship. It was an internal conflict that wreaked havoc in his mind and broke his spirit more and more each day. As the words to Lyfe Jennings Will I ever voiced the very question he asked God on a daily basis. Will I ever fall in love? Will I ever be loved back? Detrick chose to wear an armor of disinterest in public but behind closed doors what he really felt would surface. Especially when he would return to an empty home or prepare dinner for himself.

It would be easy to blame his current state on Taylour. A woman whom he had worked with and caught deep feelings for only to find out that she was married with children, and one on the way. Once he found out he tried to do away with his feelings towards her but they continued to grow until circumstances put a stop to everything. Like her crazy secretary Desiree (Des) intercepting messages on her behalf. Des later became the real life version of fatal attraction and Detrick became fed up and unnerved. He removed himself completely by going to London to get away. Even after that huge fiasco Taylour still wasn’t all to blame. He could even blame it on Lilah his fiancé who left him at the altar for her ex-boyfriend. In truth it dates back farther to his childhood and his father’s infidelity. He saw the hurt that once plagued his mother and vowed to be a different man. Although his parents worked through their issues and were able to move forward, there was an emotional strain on his relationship with his father. That has yet to be resolved. Detrick spent much of his life trying to outdo his father and show that he was the better man, spouse, and overall person. Yet the more he tried to be that “Good Guy” his efforts were demolished by the women he fell for. Now his heart was under quarantine. Locked away behind a brick all, barbed wire, and electric fence. Nothing was getting through and that was his dilemma. It frustrated him to awake from dreams of having a family. His own barbeques and Christmas mornings filled with love and cheer then to awake alone and cold. With each passing day he died a bit more inside.

In a world where people take others for granted and love is just a four letter word Detrick wondered would he ever be able to experience the love he was once willing to give, in return?

Two weeks had past and it was now time for Mr. Aiko and his associates to arrive. Dessiah was ready and beyond nervous. She sent up countless prayers that God showed favor with Mr. Aiko. He seemed to be one tough cookie. Once the meeting began Dessiah was greeted by Mr. Aiko, his translator and associates. Mr. Aiko was a rather short stubby man. His hair was salt and pepper, his face was clean shaven with only a manicured mustache. His eyes were a deep brown that some may have found intimidating and cold but leave it to Dessiah to find warmth and depth. His expressionless face seemed to be a façade that she was able to see through and tickled her at how easy it was for him to keep. Once in his presence she felt somewhat at ease until things intensified in the meeting then she began to shift in her seat. Now if you asked was it because of the tension between Mr.Aiko and Detrick or the intense gaze from his Translator Russell Wong then she couldn’t answer. Russell was very tall and mesmerizing with a special presence about him. His hair was thick and jet black cut to perfection. His slender build added to his se appeal and he was fluent in English he actually spoke without a Chinese accent.

Detrick went over the plans for Aiko electronics and Mr. Aiko seemed unimpressed.

“Well, See there is a need for the products brought forth. So we will make an event of it and reach out to all the media outlets and possibly have specials to boost price.” Detrick explained. Russell translated and Mr. Aiko whispered something back to him in his native language.
