Harry's POV:

I looked around at all the students and a weight dropped inside me. A number of people today would be losing friends, family and mentors. I felt awful that most of the people would be mercilessly killed by Voldemort and his followers.

It is the circle of life. But no one should have to go through something like that. Brutally slaying someone is not of pleasure. Unless you're like me, of course.

I chuckled at Malovent as the sinking weight delved further inside of me.

It was nearing the time to get everybody ready and outside. Quickly, I caught Snape's attention and beckoned him over. He practically glided across the stones and up the steps. "Get everybody ready. It's time to head out." Snape nodded, his hair falling over his eyes as he swiftly turned around.

The courtyard was full of students, professors and people from the Order. They were all working together to strengthen the barrier protecting the our school.

I raised my wand to contribute to the spell, it was plainly obvious that we needed more people helping with the giant barrier. It was strong, but not strong enough to gold out Voldermort's forces. I began muttering the spell, concentrating on getting it right. I needed to protect the school. I needed to protect it with my life. I let my gaze slip for a second to examine my surroundings and my allies.

Draco was standing right next to me, wand up and his face a mask of concentration. There were a few professors dotted around. I spotted Molly and Arthur Weasley and the twins with their wands raised. I let my gaze sweep across the courtyard again, catching sight of a few students. Lavender brown was there. Then there was Dean and Seamus standing together, wands raised and hands clutched tightly together with each other.

I smiled at them when I caught their eyes and they smiled back, raising their wands higher. I looked back towards the sky, still muttering when I noticed a flash over the hill. I gasped and spun around, cutting off the magic flowing from my wand. Standing in the one spot, I narrowed my eyes at the spot just over the hill.

Everything was quiet except for the muttering of spells and the crackling of magic. And then it happened. I heard the thumps of hundreds of people moving towards our school at a great pace. They were heard before they were seen. The ground started shaking in small tremors as the thumping came closer.

Heads rose over the hill in great amounts of numbers as the came into view. I saw not only Wizards and Witches, but Vampires and Werewolves amongst other forest creatures. My hands began sweating and my wand was slipping from my grasp.

This is it. This is the day. As more and more of Voldermort's army stampeded over the hill, more and more people raised their wands, trying desperately to strengthen the barrier protecting the school.

It was only a few seconds before they stopped coming over the hill and were now heading towards the barrier. A loud explosion echoed above our heads, followed by another and another. Startled by the loud noise, I looked up to find the tops of the barrier crumbling. "No." I croaked out, beginning to mutter the spell faster, but it was no use. Everyone around us was giving up, their arms dropping to their sides. Resting quickly before the battle really began.

I looked at Draco, who was rubbing his shoulder from holding it up for so long. As I looked around, I could spot several large holes in the sides of the barrier. The opposing army began closing in. I clutched my slippery wand and held it out in front of me, stepping back slightly and pushing Draco behind me as Death Eaters poured into view.
