"Yo, Devin!"

DEVIN!

"Nigga I know you hear me."

Devin took off his headphones slowly.  Frowning at Marko.

"Yea?”

"What you doing man?"  Marko asked.

He waltz in. And plopped down in the plush armchair.

"I'm working."

Marko leaned over and looked at Devin's monitor.  "Shit man that's all you have been doing for the past two weeks."

Devin wheeled his office chair around to face Marko.

“Guess what?”  He said excitedly.

“What?”  Marko asked curiously.

“I have a client interested in hiring me!”  He announced.

 "Man that ain't nothing new.

 You always have a client.”

"Yes, but this client is from an up and coming firm."

"OK I’ll bite.

Tell me more.”  Marko said as he got up, and helped himself to one of Devin's finely blended cigars.

"Are you comfortable and shit man?

Every time you come over you make yourself more at home.

Matter of fact.  Why did you take a dump in my guest bathroom...and not flush?”  Devin grimaced.

"Oh that's my bad homie.  I was over here and well when you got to go, you got to go.”

"Right.”  Devin frowned.

“Before I tell you about my new possible client we, need to talk.”

Marko sat back and happily puffed on the cigar.

“Talk then.”

 "Okay."

"If you hadn't noticed you don't live here.  Devin said smartly. You live next door, he said pointing with his index finger.  None of your belongings should be in my home.

“We are not roommate’s man.  Another thing...where is the rent?

We agreed that I would only charge you a small portion for rent.  It’s been six weeks. You’re slipping already.”

Devin was pissed.  Marko had went back on his word.  He never paid him upfront for the rent as he said he would.

“I barely recognize you.  You talk different.  You dress different.  What is going on with you?  We, use slang sure.  Lately you have been all Nigga this, Nigga that.  I thought that when I left my wife.

I left the ghettoness behind.”

Devin missed the glint in his friend’s eye as he was talking.

“So, now that we have that cleared up.  Let me tell you about this client.”

Devin did not want to hear Marko shit.  He did not want to hear any excuse that he may have.  All he wanted was his money and for Marko to stop acting so damn weird.

Marko, ashed out the cigar.

"Wait a minute I need to go do some things.

I’ll listen to your little story at another time.”

Devin looked on with displeasure as Marko left.

Was that his door he heard slamming?

Not, thinking much more of it.

He put back on his headphones, and went back to work.
