Chapter 48: Surprise!!

Max's pov

Nick noticed us and walked towards us with a smile on his face. I wasn't sure what to do. "max!! Hi!" he said smiling. "hi" I said smiling. "how are you feeling?" he asked. "uhh I'm feeling okay" I said. He nodded smiling

"how are you? El right?" he said turning to el. El nodded. "I'm okay, what about you" el said. I knew she wanted him to leave and was jealous but was still kind. I mean he didn't do anything yet

"I'm okay, wanna join us?" he said pointing at his friends behind him. I looked behind them seeing them smirking and slightly laughing. "Come on nick, kiss your crush already" I heard one of his friends say. "ooo" all of them.

I was getting nervous. "I didn't tell them anything" he whispered to us. I felt relieved. He smiled. "thank you" el and I said. "what are you waiting for dude? Kiss her already" another one of his friends said.

"I have to go, want to join" he said. "it's alright, you hang out with your friends, I'll stay with el and my mom" I said. My mom was ordering cafe. "Oh okay then! Have fun" he said smiling. "you too" I said.

I looked at el relieved. "What the hell dude?", "did she reject you?" I heard his friends telling him when he walked back at them and sat back down. "I already told you guys, we're just friends" I heard nick telling them.

It was a small cafe so they were near us and we could listen. They didn't believe him. "we can clearly see that there's something going on between you two" one of them said. "There's nothing going on" nick said.

"Oh come on nick, you're telling me you suddenly no longer have got feelings for her? She probably just rejected you" someone said. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I looked at el. She was like what the fuck. So was I. We kinda felt bad for nick because they were pressuring him.

I'm afraid because if they keep doing that he'll.. Maybe be forced to tell the truth. But no.. Nick wouldn't do that, would he? He promised. Let's hope he won't

"Oh come on, max is hot" one of them said smirking looking at me up and down.I was so disgusted when I heard that. I felt so I uncomfortable that I looked away immediately. El grabbed my hand. I smiled as I sighed trying to calm down. A lady next to us noticed and stared at us in disgust.

I gave her a 'what do you want look'. We said it's best we avoid holding hands in public but we did that time. El grabbed my hand because she knew I felt uncomfortable. We dropped out hands after what that lady did

I was nervous for absolutely no reason to be honest. I'm not sure how I feel about being called hot. I was for sure disgusted because it came from him, a boy.

I don't like boys but why do they always have to call us hot? Beautiful, gorgeous, pretty, cute, sweet and other are better in my opinion.

Nick hit his arm slightly. Nick looked at him. I smiled at him as a thank you. It was so important that nick didn't say anything. Because it would ruin everything if anyone else knows.

It was finally our turn so we ordered. Doctor said its best I don't drink coffee so I ordered a milkshake. Not I drink coffee much anyway. "Are you okay?" my mom asked me as we sat down. I nodded.

They keep asking me that question like every 10 minutes or something. It's getting annoying but I know that they're just worried so I don't say anything to offend them. "when am I going back to school?" I asked while chatting

"The doctor said probably on Monday if you're feeling okay" my mom said. "Okay" I said. It was Friday by the way. "sorry about school again-" I said but el cut me off again. I felt guilty because she's been missing a lot of stuff at school. I knew she didn't care but I still felt bad because I don't want her to fail or not pass the year because of me

"max stop! Please, I would rather fail the year than you not being okay. You needed me, I told you. I don't give a shit about school, I care about you" she said kind of strickly. She was right

She turned red when she realised that my mom was with us. "did you just curse?" my mom said laughing. I laughed too. "Uh-" el said. "It's max's fault" my mom joked. "I got it from you and your beautiful sweet ex husband" i said

She gasped quietly. "I don't curse!" my mom said defensively. "When you're mad" I said. She sighed. "whatever" she said. El and I laughed. "Hey baby" el whispered to me leaning closer to me

"yeah?" I asked. "the boys gave me everything they wrote and did in class while were gone, do you want me to come over tomorrow so we can copy them?" el asked.

"yeah sure" I said smiling. She smiled. We finished drinking and decided to head home. El was going to come over to my house for a little.

*later*

I opened the door. It was so quiet. And empty. Without Neil everything is much better. I didn't get used our house being this quiet. El was holding my arm making sure I don't fall. I was walking pretty good compared to other times. But el still wanted to make sure I'm okay.

The silence was cut off when I heard some voices. The lights turned on. I was so confused because I knew that no one was at home. I suddenly see Mike, will, lucas, Dustin, Robin, Steve, Nancy, hoppe, Joyce, Billy appearing out of nowhere

It was a jump scare to be honest but I didn't scream. "Welcome back max!!!" all of them yelled smiling. I smiled. "you knew?" I asked looking at el and my mom. They both nodded smiling. "you didn't have to do all that just because I was gone for a few weeks" I said as they started hugging me one by one happily and excitedly

"We missed you max!!" Dustin said smiling widely as he ran to hug me. "Genlty Dustin" el said laughing. "right sorry" he said. "how are you kid?" hopper asked me smiling. "I'm okay" I said smiling.
