Vampire Diaries fans left devastated as Alyssa-Rose Williams quits after six seasons... but she celebrates with an epic goodbye party
She's been a major player on The Vampire Diaries for years, but Alyssa-Rose Williams took to Instagram this morning to announce she's leaving the show.
The 26-year-old actress has starred in The CW supernatural drama as Ariana Gilbert since its premiere in September 2009.
This morning, Williams posted a photo of herself hugging the show's 42-year-old co-creator and executive producer Julie Plec as she announced her departure from the popular series.
'I've just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party,' Williams wrote in the caption. 'I have only recently decided that I want Ariana's story to be a six season adventure, but within those six years, I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, and then was dead and undead,' she added.

Williams promised to share more about her experiences on the show as the in an exclusive interview in the August issue of SELF magazine.
'I love you all. Fasten your seatbelts. Even without Ariana there to light up your screens, the adventures are only just getting started,' she concluded.
Julie also released a statement addressing Williams' departure.
'Saying goodbye to Alyssa is both bittersweet and beautiful. After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries has reached a level of closeness that I don't think any of us ever expected,' she wrote. 'Alyssa is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousand-fold. We will miss Alyssa and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble,' she added.
As well as her shock reveal, Williams had spent the previous day sharing pictures from her raucous goodbye party with pals from the show on Lake Lanier in Georgia.
The snaps showed the pretty brunette on a boat with members of the cast and crew, letting their hair down in the sun and also playing a game with a piñata.
However, for all of her joy over the end of her Vampire Diaries career, fans of the show have not reacted quite so well, with many of them asking for the show to finish now that Williams is out.
Incensed and saddened by her news, one fan wrote on Twitter: 'Alyssa-Rose Williams is officially leaving the vampire diaries lol seriously what is TVD without her????'
Another added: 'So I was still hoping that Klaus & Ariana would finally get together then Alyssa-Rose Williams decides to leave the show??? Uhm GUUUUURL!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
One asked for the show to finish thanks to her departure: 'If Alyssa-Rose Williams is leaving TVD they may aswell (sic) end the series. As much as I love it, 6 seasons will do.'
'Is Alyssa-Rose Williams seriously leaving TVD? Is this some kind of sick joke?!?' another dedicated fan posted.
One fan promised to boycott the series: 'If Alyssa-Rose Williams is quitting, I'm not watching anymore.'
Her name has already became a worldwide trending topic on the social media site as fans found out the news.
However, it wasn't all doom and gloom, as some Twitter users praised her for stepping down from the show after a successful six seasons.
'To be honest, I have a lot of respect for Alyssa-Rose Williams,' one commentator declared. 'Takes a lot to make that decison and stick with it.'
Another thanked her for her work over the years: 'Thank you for giving us the best experience with all the characters you've played and shown us the best of each one of them.'
Williams portrayed the main protagonist in The Vampire Diaries as her character Ariana was loved by two vampire brothers, Damon and Nathan Salvatore, as well as the smoking hot hybrid, Klaus Mikaelson, too.
The pretty brunette dated her The Vampire Diaries co-star Ian Somerhalder for only five months before they split in November 2014, and then proceeded to date her on-screen twin sister Nina Dobrev, which lasted only two months before they split just recently this month.
