Synopsis:

Ye Yunting, the unfavored son of his clan, was given a marriage by imperial decree to Li Fenqqi, King of Yong'an as his Wangfei.

King Yong'an guarded the Northern Borders and killed countless enemies. He was the well deserved God of War of their country.

However, when Ye Yunting married, the God of War has already been poisoned, his meridians broken and could only lie in bed.

Ye Yunting married with a dead heart. Because he was afraid of the fierce name of the God of War, he hid in his yard and let the days pass by. It didn't take long for him to lose his life because he drank the poison soup given to King Yong'an by mistake.

Before his death, the God of War who is said to be dying, half kneeled before his bed, holding his hand and solemnly promised: "You died because of me. From now on, I will do everything to protect your relatives. You can go with peace of mind."

Later, he became the Emperor and he really fulfilled his promise and sheltered his only relative.

After the first life, Ye Yunting still couldn't hide from his fate as King Yong'an's Chongxi bride. But this time, he decided to take good care of this dying man and repay him the kindness of his past life.

Unexpectedly, after detoxification, the man eagerly pulled him to be with him.

He was held tightly in his arms by the man: "You will follow me and from now on, I will protect you."

Impressions: From the same author as The Tyrant's Beloved Empress, also ancient times, there are some similarities~ but only a few.

So our MC marries ML as a Chongxi(?) bride. It's a kind of custom where if the person is sick/dying, they marry someone to him to inject some blessing(???) to chase away the badluck so the patient will get better. Anyways, it was just a hoax. ML is a famous God of War, he is close brothers with the current Emperor and he even helped put him in the throne. However, the Emperor suddenly had a change of heart and always worried that ML would steal the throne from him. ML was poisoned and the Emperor did all kinds of things to humiliate him including marrying him a male bride which is our MC. 

In the past life, the same thing happened to MC. He was unwilling to the marriage, but later just lived quietly in ML's Palace until he mistakenly drank the poison soup supposed to be for ML. When he was dying, ML told him that he was just implicated by him so he would do his best to honor his wishes. MC told him to rescue his imprisoned servant (who tried to help him escape the marriage), and make sure he live well. Then MC died. MC's soul/ghost stayed in the tomb. Years later, MC's servant visited him and told him all the things that happened in the outside world. How ML became a Tyrant Emperor and took revenge for his subordinates/his mother who were all killed by the previous Emperor.

MC gets reborn on the day of his marriage and he didn't try to escape so his servant was not imprisoned this time but came with him. He decides to take care of ML cos after all, he was the God of War who defended their borders from enemies and he couldn't stand seeing him humiliated. He also understood that their circumstances are tied now, so he wants ML to get better.  ML was originally gay and he sees his caring male wife quite pleasing~ After seeing his sincerity, MC gains ML's trust and he help him get medicinal herbs to suppress his poison. ML's poison is actually from the Emperor's teacher. The teacher actually wants ML to rebel/seize the throne and become Emperor and make him his Prime Minister. He keeps threatening ML with the poison, since he's the only one who has the antidote. But ML won't cooperate with him. He would rather cure the poison himself and if necessary, get the throne himself without making a deal with the teacher.

Laters, ML's poison was cured (which may/may not have been the teacher's intention). He went to the borders with MC to fight against invaders. At the same time, he 'conquered' other states and expanded his influence. Meanwhile, Emperor is in the Capital and he finally learned his own Teacher's ambitions. #SPOOOILLER Emperor is in unrequited love with his Teacher. Teacher is inlove with the previous Crown Prince which should've been the Emperor if he was not killed by his brother/current Emperor's Dad. ML is the son of the previous Crown Prince so ML should've inherited the throne if his Father has not been killed. So the Teacher has been working hard all these years to put ML in the throne. He is soo obsessed with his promise with the Crown Prince that when he becomes Emperor, he would be the Prime Minister and then make their country prosperous.

Anyways, ML expands his influence, the Emperor has also somewhat given up on himself. When ML stormed the Palace, he committed suicide. Teacher is also somewhat lost whether he did the right thing or not, and also, committed suicide. After ML's origin is exposed, MC's origin is exposed next. And turns out, he's the son of the previous King of another country. Of course, ML is not willing for MC to go away and inherit the throne of some other country so he spoke to his mother-in-law Queen XD and decided to annex the country. And him and MC ruled as two Emperors. There is no mpreg here so MC and ML chose heirs from some of the children of the clan. Extras is MC and ML leaving the Palace to the heirs and travelling all over the world~ Also, side CP of MC's little brother XD

Hmm... few romantic moments but the plot is really full, with both MC and ML's hidden identity and how they fought the war/got the throne etc. MC's rebirth was told to ML and he would tell him when he dreams of the previous life so ML in this life is more...smooth sailing. He knows which person to be wary of/who may scheme against him. MC & ML's couple life is good. They're not overly romantic but they're a good couple. Good main characters~~

Surprisingly, its the Emperor, the Teacher and the Emperor's servant which would count as 'villains' who is more...complex ?). The Teacher is just cold for me. He knows the Emperor's feelings for him and uses it to achieve his goal/obsession. After realizing it, he began to re-think his actions but it was too late. (Doesn't white-wash him for me though). With the servant, he's a good servant to the Emperor which means he is bad to others, but MC has saved him once and he always remembered it and on the critical moment, he saved MC/allowed MC to escape. With the Emperor, he really is a bad Emperor to his country/people. He is not a worthy leader. But for some people, he can be a good person like the twins who were serving him or his Shadow guards, he showed them kindness. He is not a pure bad person but that doesn't offset that what he did made his country's citizens suffer. Not to mention all the officials he killed. (It's really all the Teacher's fault. Hmph!) In the end, the Emperor is also kind of pitiful.

Overall, good plot! Similarities with The Tyrant's Beloved Empress is that ML is also a God of War, and became double Emperors with MC. But development is not the same, since this has no mpreg/fantasy plot. And I think that this has less romance~ Cos sometimes, ML and MC are separated since ML has to go to the frontlines. So there are fewer chances of romance~
