The following day, Sam, Samuel, and I were packing our things when Dean walked out of the bathroom.

"Hi," Sam said immediately. "So, what'd you see?"

"What?" Dean asked, caught off guard.

"In the nest. What'd you see?" Sam asked again.

I furrowed my brow at him. "Why does that matter so much?"

Sam shrugged. "I'm just curious."

Dean and I exchanged a look, and then he sighed. "Um... well, I'm still trying to work through it, but, uh... I'm pretty sure they're not figuring anything out on their own. They're getting their orders from the top... where to go next, everything."

"Top, as in...?" Sam asked.

Dean shrugged. "Their alpha. At least, that's what I think it is. They've got some sort of psychic thing happening. He sends 'em, uh... I don't know... messages?"

"Saying what?" Sam asked.

"Honestly? Recruitment drive." Dean shrugged. "Their alpha's building an army."

Samuel sighed. "Well, that's comforting."

Dean shook his head. "That's not the worst."

"Then what is?" Sam asked.

"We don't scare them anymore," Dean said.

Outside, Sam and I finished packing the Impala when Dean slammed the trunk after ending a call with Lisa.

"How'd it go?" I asked.

Dean sighed and shook his head. "It didn't."

Sam frowned. "I'm sorry," he said, sounding almost insincere.

Dean nodded. "Yeah. At least, uh... you two got my back. No matter what happens, I can always count on the both of you..." He looked at Sam. "Right, Sammy?"

That's when I realized he must've seen the same thing I did that night. I wasn't going crazy.

Sam paused slightly. "Yeah. Of course, Dean."
