Virgil wasn't exactly very happy about being dragged to the aquarium with his two friends, but here he was anyway because no one in the entire universe was strong enough to say no to Patton. And sadly, he didn't have anything better to do.

"Oh, Verge, look at this one! It's so creepy." Patton took a careful step back as a slimy-looking fish swam closer to the glass, tight grip to his boyfriends hand.

Not that Virgil was a very mushy and lovey-dovey person who dreamed about finding his own soulmate, but sometimes when he saw his two friends, who had been fortunate enough to find each other years ago, Virgil thought that having someone to hold hands with wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

"Come on, I want to look at the squids! Also I promised to take some photos for Remus, he's really into squids and octopuses lately." Roman said, pulling slightly at Patton's hand and sending an encouraging smile to Virgil.

"I want to look at pizza." Virgil said, feeling increasingly hungry and not very interested in either fish or octopuses.

"But can you even afford to buy pizza?" Roman asked as they walked towards a room with a sign of a squid. Or an octopus, Virgil didn't know the difference.

"...No." Virgil admitted, crossing his arms over his chest. With Patton and Roman walking around holding hands and looking all happy together it was slightly difficult for Virgil not to feel like he was a third wheel. That's what happened when his two friends were a couple. It kind of sucked, a lot of the time it felt like he was interrupting time they could be spending alone together.

Even if he knew that wasn't the case. They were great at not making Virgil feel left out, having no problem with pulling him in too for cuddles on movie nights, never cancelling plans to have a date, nothing like that. They were actually the best friends anyone could wish for, but Virgil's brain was a little anxiety-ridden bitch.

"Hey, this one's cool!" Roman said, showing the two a tank that Virgil first thought was empty until Roman showed him how the squid, or maybe octopus or whatever, was almost camouflaged to the surroundings. Now, that was a superpower Virgil had often wished he had.

"So what's even the difference between squids and octopuses? Aren't they all just slimy and tentacle-y?" Virgil asked, watching with amusement as Roman struggled to take a picture without his own reflection visible in the glass to the tank.

"I have no idea. Whatever these are they're kinda cute though! Like that stuffed squid toy where you can sort of flip it inside out and it will switch moods." Patton said with a smile, having already moved to another one full of smaller squids.

"Yeah." Virgil said although he couldn't see the resemblance much at all.

"Oh, Roman, can we go see if they have those in the gift shop! Pretty please?" Patton asked and Virgil didn't need to look at Roman to know he'd already given in.

"Of course, Pat. Virgil, do you want to come?" Roman asked but for whatever reason that Virgil himself wasn't sure of he shook his head. It just didn't seem that fun to stand around watching them be all cute in the giftshop. And Virgil couldn't afford anything in there anyway. Damn, he needed a job.

"I'll stay here for a bit. I'm gonna look at the glowing fish." He said and made a gesture towards an even darker room. Bioluminescent things were pretty cool. He didn't know any of the science or anything, but they looked cool.

"Okay, meet you in ten, yeah?" Roman said, already being dragged away by Patton. Virgil walked over to the other room, going up to a tank where the least other people were. Thankfully a lot of people weren't here at this time of the day anyway, or Virgil would have been even more against coming here today.

He leant close to the glass, staring into the tank, giving his eyes a little while to get used to the dark. He could see some shapes that were probably fish further back, glowing spots on them. Then one swam past really close to his face and he took a step back in surprise.

"Cool." He said under his breath, smiling a little to himself. Yeah, glowing things were cool. He moved towards a sign lit up by a small lamp, reading about which fish were in this tank and where they were from. There was a picture of an anglerfish next to the text, but Virgil had yet to see one mentioned in the text or showing itself in the tank, so he didn't know if there was actually one there for him to see.

"Did you know that the anglerfish can become over three feet long? Though most do not grow bigger than a foot." A voice nearby said and Virgil whipped his head to the side to look at whoever had spoken because, why would anyone decide to just talk to him out of nowhere, that was terrifying, and also, actually...

He did know that.

"Hey." Virgil said, which was the first thing he could think of saying as his brain was busy trying not to freak the fuck out at hearing a sentence that he knew so well. He'd hear it said before, people reading it out loud from his arm, he'd read it himself a billion times, but it still took him with absolute surprise.

"Hello, my name is Logan. I probably should have started with that." The other said. Maybe Virgil looked as freaked out as he felt.

"Uh, I think you're my soulmate?" Virgil said quietly, sounding so nervous that it might as well have been a question. He knew he wasn't wrong, but what if he was wrong? That'd be fucking embarrassing.

Virgil gripped the sleeve of his hoodie, pulling it up to show the words Logan had just said imprinted on his skin. He held his wrist up so he could read it.

"Oh, uh, and my name is Virgil." He said, pulling his sleeve down, a little flustered that he almost forgot that part.

"Virgil." Logan said slowly, almost testing the name out.

"I thought I might never find you." Logan said, showing his wrist with a simple 'hey' written on his skin. Virgil was suddenly very happy about the weird fact he had on his skin, having something as generic as a 'hey' would have made him anxious to hear anyone greet him because what if he'd missed the person who was his soulmate? (Not that he wasn't anxious every day anyway.)

"Yeah, that can't have made it easy to figure out who your soulmate is, sorry about that." Virgil said, wondering if he was being as awkward as he felt. He really hoped not.

"I'm just glad I've found you, I'm excited for the opportunity to get to know you." Logan said, then smiling slightly.

Oh no, his soulmate was pretty, this wasn't fair. Virgil couldn't help smiling back, a very unusual fluttery feeling in his chest. Like anxiety, but in a good way, if that would ever make sense.

"Here, my phone number, so that we can keep in contact." Logan said, and Virgil fumbled for his phone, hoping Logan didn't notice his hands shake as he unlocked it and found the contacts app, letting Logan type his number in.

"Your friend seems to be calling you." Logan said as he returned his phone to him and Virgil pressed answer.

"I'll see you guys later." He said before Roman had the time to say anything, then he hung up, hoping that his two friends wouldn't think he was being kidnapped and try to come to his rescue. It was after all uncommon for Virgil to stay outside his room willingly. (Maybe he was just a little, incredibly, antisocial.)

"If you'd want to... I mean, I don't need to leave yet, we could... look at some fish together?" Virgil said, hoping desperately that he didn't look as flustered as he felt. It was impressive, how awkward he could be.

"I'd like that." Logan said, holding his hand out and it took a second before Virgil realized he was meant to take it. He let their fingers entwine, face no doubt flustered bright red (thank god for the dark).

Logan seemed to have spent a lot of time at this aquarium before, because he could tell Virgil facts about almost every creature in there, and Virgil ended up spending a much longer time there than he'd ever thought he would. He'd discovered that these fishes and squids or whatever else that could be found there was quite interesting, and that his soulmate got the cutest expression of excitement and awe when he was talking about them.
