It has been a month since the whole incident and things were starting to go back to normal.
James found it weird how Bianca and Sam both disappeared until he watched his security footage. He didn't think much of it, he thought it was payback for not holding his end of the deal.
Today was the trial of Monica Campbell and her husband. Devontae was not involved in the incident so he was let out on bond.
"Are you ready?" Josiah asked Naomi looking at her outfit. He bit down on his lips as his eyes trailed up and down her body.
"Do you like what you see?" she asks teasingly while applying lipgloss.
"Like? No, I love it" he said going closer and placing both his hands on her waist. He rests his head in the crook of her neck and started placing kisses down her neck.
"Mhmm," she said slightly breathless.
"Baby we need to go or we will never make it," she said feeling him against her butt.
Their relationship has been going great and so far they had no arguments. Their bond also grew and they could talk to each other about anything.
The public was also aware of their relationship and like any other couple, they got their negative and positive comments.
But they did not seal the deal.
Naomi was ready but she was not sure about how she would approach the situation.
"Fine" he pouted and she turned around to kiss his lips while grinning.
"Maybe after," she said with a smirk. Josiah was shocked at her boldness and he could tell she was also shocked.
They both walked out of her apartment and made their way to her car. Josiah started spending some nights with her since he said he loved how homey it was.
"Who's driving?" she asks and he took the keys from her. He opened the door for her and closed it when she got in.
The car ride was forty-five minutes long and the whole ride Josiah's hand was rested on her thigh. He would rub them slowly while he drove with one hand.
"Josiah" she whined when he started rubbing to close to her lady parts.
"What" he chuckled lowly and she folded her arms across her chest. It pushed her boob up and that caught Josiah's attention.
"Oh my gosh," she screamed covering her face to hide her blush. "Just drive," she said not looking at him.
"Look at me," he said and she shook her head no.
"Naomi" he called her but she wasn't listening. He pulled into the parking lot and saw that the security team he requested parked next to them.
"Look at me," he said this time using his finger to turn her head.
"Can I have a kiss?" he ask and she shook her head childishly.
She looked down not making eye contact but she had a small smile on her face.
He unbuckled her seatbelt and pulled her small body over to his seat. He pushed his seat back so she could straddle him comfortably.
"MiMi," he said starting to tickle her, and fits of laughter left her mouth.
When they got quiet she looked up at him and saw the look that she was giving him. When their lips touched he let out a hum of satisfaction, his hands trailed down her back to her butt. He stopped at her butt and started to rub it softly.
He pulled back and licked her bottom lip causing her to hide her face in his chest.
She looked up and that was when she saw the security standing next to the car.
Awkward.
Then she remembered the windows were tinted so they could not see her.
She went back over to her side and he came and opened the door for her.
They walked together hand in hand as they spotted her family.
"MiMi," Najomi said pulling her into a hug. She heard so many people call her that name so it stuck with her too.
She greeted everyone and each of them gave her a hug.
It was time for them to enter the courtroom and take a seat. The Patterson's family lawyer was also present at the hearing.
This would be the first time that Naomi would see her kidnappers after they were arrested.
Daniel and Monica were both brought out in handcuffs. The judge found it easier to hear both sides at the same time instead of having different hearings.
Monica and Naomi made eye contact, she wanted Naomi to look away but she did not give her kidnapper the satisfaction.
The officers led them to a desk and they sat beside their public defender. They were not able to afford a lawyer so they were appointed one.
None of Monica or Daniels family members showed up because they knew what the outcome would be.
"All rise for the jury," the bailiff said and everyone stood up.
"You may be seated," the judge said and they did what was told. "We're back on the record with case number 7498345c, state of California vs Monica and Daniel Campbell".
"The first witness to the stand will be Nurse Catherine Hall" the family lawyer announced and one of the nurses who worked in the hospital that day stood up.
She placed her hand on the bible and took the oath.
The public defender stood up to start asking questions.
"Ms. Hall, were you working a hospital shift on August 13, 1997, at Cedars- Sinai Medical center?" he asks staring at the doctor.
"Yes sir," Catherine said without blinking.
"Were you one of the doctors in the room at the time of birth?" he continued hoping she would give anything away.
But there was nothing that could help them.
"Let's just get this over with" the judge interrupted.
"Ms. Campbell, did you or did you not take the child?" he asks and Monica put her head down as tears fell from her eyes.
"Yes your honor I did" she replied now looking at him.
"Why?" he asks and the question she was dreading was asked.
"I didn't have a reason. When I first held her it felt like we were connected somehow. She was the smaller of the two twins and I couldn't help myself. So, I took her and we left and moved away. Things got harder than I planned for and without a job, I couldn't take care of her so I placed her into the system. I couldn't take her back to her birth family-" she was interrupted by the judge.
"Mr. Campbell, were you aware of what your wife was going to take part in?" he asks before she could finish.
"Yes sir" Daniel answered refusing to be humiliated by a judge.
"Can the child please step forward?" the judge asks and Naomi stood up. The room fell silent as they waited to hear what was going to happen.
"Are you Naomi Patterson?" he asked her and she nodded her head before realizing her mistake.
"Yes, your honor" she responded nervously.
"How old are you Naomi?" he questioned her and Josiah frowned.
Why does he need to know her age? He is way too old for her and she is taken.
Those thoughts ran through his mind and he stopped paying attention.
"Twenty- three your honor," she told him and he nodded in thought.
"Monica Campbell you will be sentenced to twenty-five years without parole" he announced and Monica started crying hysterically.
"Daniel Campbell will serve twenty-three years also without parole," he said before hitting his gavel.
Although they got what they deserved the family was still not satisfied. They still took away a newborn from their mother.
This was a difficult chapter to write because I have no clue what happens in a courtroom.
