"Hey Justin! It's ed!"
"Ed sheeran! Hey man, how's it going?"
"It's going great man, you?"
"Busy but good"
"Yeah, um so I'm calling because I was wondering if you wanted to come in the studio with me, you and your daughter"
"We would love to, when you thinking?"
"I'm here the whole week, and most of next week, I have a gig at the voice, I was wondering if you could help me write and song, and if you or your daughter wanted to perform it with me"
"I'm sure Bri would love to, she's a big fan"
"I'm a fan of hers, she's amazing man, at only what, 14?"
"Yeah I know, she's something"
"She got a Grammy before me" I laughed
"But dude you are amazing"
"Thanks man it means a lot"
"Where's your studio?"
"It's on 1st street off by the Starbucks"
"Oh yeah yeah, you there now?"
"I practically live here"
"I'm on my way" he laughed
"See ya in a couple"
"Yep" I said before hanging up
"Babes!"
"Bub!!"
"We gotta go!"
"Where are we going, I feel like crap"
She comes downstairs with her hair in a messy bun in my sweatshirt and leggings. "We're going to the studio?"
"Why I don't have any songs, neither do you"
"We are helping someone"
"Who?"
"Ed"
She looked up at me, "you mean ed sheeran!!" I nodded
"We gotta go now! I need to meet him!!" She pulled my hand and ran to the garage.
"Dad hurry up!" She said as I stopped at the red light
"I'm gonna just run the red light" I said not looking at her waiting for it to turn green
"Yeah"
I shook my head at her when it turned green and I went across the intersection and went to the back of the studio.
I parked and Bri practically pulled me out of the car and to the door. "Slow down" she just went faster
We got to where ed was and she let go of my hand. "Hey man!" I said to ed and went up to give him a bro hug
"Hey JT"
We broke apart and Bri looked up at me. "Ed this is Bri as you know"
"Hey Bri"
"Hi"
"She's star struck right now, give her a minute"
He laughed and she was staring at him. "Stop staring at him, that's creepy" I mumbled to her
She rolled her eyes, and sat down in the spiny chair. He sat down next her and I sat on her other side. "So you need a song?"
"Yeah, adam called me and told me they wanted me there for the live shows to sing, he mentioned you guys and told me to reach out to you guys, he said you guys are the best song writing duo, which I would have to agree with him"
"Thank you" Bri said
"We appreciate it, um slow song? Upbeat?"
"Slow at first, and a little upbeat during the chorus"
Bri put her glasses on and she started writing down stuff.
Ed ran ideas past me and we tried to figure out how to do it.
Bri got up about an hour through and went to sit down at the keyboard. "Don't tell me you play piano and have waited till now to tell me?"
She shrugged, she started playing chords, and then a little melody. It was for until the end of time. "You have to know if you can play that"
"Maybe"
"You know -"
She started playing señorita. "You do, play that chord you were playing before"
She played it, "then do" she did the little riff of notes
"It's just another night, and I'm staring at the moon"
I wrote it down as Bri sang her idea, "I saw a shooting star, and thought of you"
"See this is why I called you guys"
Bri laughed, "Ed can you play guitar along with the melody" he started strumming to find a perfect pitch
I wrote more lyrics down and tried to get them to go together.
I finished with help from Bri and ed, he sat down and Bri sat down at the keyboard.
Ed sang the first verse and Bri sang the second one and at each chorus they harmonized. It ended and we all looked at each other.
"Well damn" ed said as he got up
I covered bri's ears and looked him, "that's the shit man, that's a number one hit, that right there will get you a Grammy"
"Don't fuck with me Timberlake"
"Stop being an asshole, your good dude, your better than a lot of people that are getting Grammys"
I took my hands off bri's ears. "Thank you both so much, this was amazing"
"When's the performance?"
"Two days from now, and Bri if you want to do it with me"
"I would love to"
Two days later.....
"Ed it's not funny!!! Give me my sweatshirt back!!!" I shouted as I ran after him
We were at the voice and right now it was before the show and the coaches were talking with the crowd. Ed ran out onto stage and I sprinted after him. "Bri!!"
"Not the time, ed give it back!" The crowd laughed
I jumped into his back and he stumbled forward a bit and I grabbed the sweatshirt.
I went over to Adam, he handed me the mic. "Hey everyone!"
"Bri we gotta go get ready!"
"Hold on" they handed the mic to a girl and she asked me a question
"I am performing tonight"
"Is your dad here?"
"No, thank god" adam laughed
"I'm in charge of her for the night, actually both her and ed" ed came over and pushed adam
"Dude it's true, you act like a little kid all the time"
Ed strummed the beginning of the song and the crowd cheered. I looked around the crowd and who do I find. Dad.
He told me he wasn't going to be here. As I started singing the second verse, i started walking toward him.
I got up to him and the crowd started cheering louder. I sat down in his lap and finished the rest of the verse.
The song ended and we got a standing ovation. We both said thank you and made our way back stage.
