Hey Y/N! Want to come play Fallout with the guys and I? We have fooooood
You were sipping on your morning coffee when the text came in. You chuckled as you read it on your screen. How cute, he thought you had free time.
Y/N:
I don't get off of shift until like 10
You sighed and couldn't help but laugh again and shake your head at how naive he could be when it came to schedules. Michael seemed to either have oodles of free time or absolutely none. So when he was free he tended to think that everyone else was and that's just not the case.
Mikey:
Sooooooo? Come over at like 10 then
You rolled your eyes. Did he not know that you needed time to decompress, shower, and catch up on your Netflix shows? Not to mention you had to get up in the morning so sleep was a must.
Y/N:
I have to be up at 6 in the morning
That text made you realize that you were actually running behind at the moment. You had probably ten minute left before you had to go and you weren't even dressed. You gulped down your coffee quickly, wincing a little at the bitter flavor, and then started sprinting up to your room. While running, you sent Michael a three character long text.
Y/N:
Gtg
You quickly got dressed, threw your hair back, grabbed your keys, and ran out to your car. It was bound to be another fun day as a detective in the white collar crime unit.
- Michael's POV -
"She did NOT!" I shrieked and glanced down at my phone.
"She didn't what?" Ashton, who was laying to my left perked up a little and looked up from his own phone.
"Who's she? Are you cheating on me?" Luke sat up straight from my right with a sleepy pout.
"That would be like level 2 incest considering that I'm texting Y/N," I shuddered.
Calum just snored, in the flurry of trying to all fit on my bed after the band sleepover last night he had ended up draped horizontally across our feet. Unfortunately he was just a little bit too tall so his forehead was dangerously close to one edge, and his ankles dangled off the other.
"What's level one incest then?" Luke sighed, stretching his arms up and yawning like a cat.
"Parent," Ashton said as he swung his legs out from the side of the bed, "that's the worse one."
"Can you guys not talk about incest while I'm trying to sleep?" Calum grumbled and rolled over so that he was on his back.
"Hey Luke started it," I countered, putting up my hands and slowly crawling out from the comforter.
"Awww I'm sorry Cally," Luke fluttered his lashes and opened his arms.
Calum groaned and awkwardly rolled up to him. He wasn't really cuddled against Luke like I'm sure the blonde intended, it was more like laying across his lap looking at the ceiling.
"Well what did Y/N text you then?" Ashton asked, pulling off his shirt with one hand while rifling through my closet with the other.
"She texted, 'don't touch Michael's favorite All Time Low shirt Ashton'," I frowned when I saw what one it looked like he was going to pick.
Ashton shook his head but grabbed the ripped up The 1975 tee instead, "I get it but what did she actually say?"
"Well, I was mad that she said she had to go," I shrugged, "work I guess."
"Oh yeah, Detective Clifford," Luke wiggled his eyebrows, "does her success make you feel inadequate?"
I spun on my heel to give him a 'what the heck are you talking about I'm rich, hot, and famous' look, "no, but you saying 'inadequate' makes me feel like you're a nerd."
"How can you feel like I'm a nerd though?" Luke countered, raising an eyebrow in cockiness.
"I don't know but I feel it," I shrugged, "I wish that she could hang out more."
"Same, she's the better Clifford," Calum said tiredly, "she's never woken me up before."
"That's your only criteria? Then who's the best Hemmings?" Luke asked, poking Calum's squishy cheek.
Calum scowled and slapped the pale hand away, "Ben."
"Hmph," Luke crossed his arms and looked away.
"Pout all you want Mr. Incest," Calum said sassily.
Ashton must have decided to change the topic of conversation before things got heated, "when was the last time you've gotten to hang out with her?"
I chewed on my lip as I tried to put my memories in chronological order. Was it when we went to a movie? No. That weird hipster restaurant that didn't have plates? No. "I think it was when we jokingly brought her donuts two weeks ago," I said finally.
"Well that's not tooooo long," Luke hummed.
"Feels like it," I muttered and sat down dejectedly.
"Well I'm sure you guys can do something as soon as she has time. I mean all she does is work, she doesn't even have a boyfriend," Ashton giggled, now wearing one of my shirts and probably my sunglasses too.
"She doesn't need a boyfriend," I said matter-of-factly, "ever."
"Michael she's a successful professional woman and you want her to be alone?" Calum raised both eyebrows.
When he put it that way I felt a little guilty, "okay okay, fine, I'll just arrange her marriage."
Luke laughed loudly at that. I glared as the other two quickly joined.
"What?" I said defensively, crossing my arms.
"Y/N would kick your ass before letting you anywhere near her love life," Calum snorted like a pig he was laughing so hard.
"Hmph," I frowned until they were finally done.
Once Ashton had wiped away the last of the tears in his eyes born from the laughing session he spoke up, "well maybe you could come up with a plan to see her."
"OOOO LIKE AN EVIL PLAN?" Luke laughed and rubbed his hands together.
Calum winced, "this is going to be illegal isn't it?"
"Since when do you care about things being legal?" I chuckled.
"True," he smirked a little and stared off for a moment. I knew that he was daydreaming about something he had done that was undoubtably very illegal.
"Okay, so how do you get the attention of a detective? Commit a crime!" Luke chirped excitedly.
"But she's a white collar detective, she only deals with high-class rich people criminals," Calum pointed out, "what are we going to do to get her attention?"
"Tax evasion," Ashton said very seriously.
"No!" Luke said with a smile, "That is not the right answer."
"Fine then genius, tell us your great idea," Ashton stuck his tongue out.
"We don't need to commit a white collar crime to be noticed by her. We just need to be arrested for something. Then we do what all families of cops do on TV shows and demand to talk to her and she gets us out!" He said excitedly.
I was unconvinced, "what do you want to do then?"
Ashton slid down my sunglasses so that they were low on his nose and his eyes were looking at me over the lenses, "just call me Ashton 'Speedy' Irwin," he grinned.
"No," Calum said bluntly, "A) that's stupid. B) I'm driving. And C) you're idea of speeding is going 5 over. Most people drive at five over."
Ashton pushed his glasses back up and let out an indignant noise.
"Let's just go do this," I walked over to the pile of worn jeans on the ground and shuffled through them until I found keys in a pocket. I tossed them to Calum who caught them with an open palm just before they beaned Luke.
"Hell yes. I'm going to show you what Calum 'Speedy' Hood is capable of," Calum grabbed the glasses off of Ashton's face and put them on his own while broadly grinning.
"Nope," still sounds stupid, Luke informed him.
"Shhhhhh! Let me have this!"
- Your POV -
You were just trying to do your paperwork from a recent case when your desk phone began to ring. Internally cursing, you set down your pen and picked it up.
"Detective Clifford," you said amicably. You never knew what was on the other line, you had gotten thanks, threats, and everything in between.
"Sorry to disturb you Detective, I'm about ready to arrest four males for dangerous speeding but they insist on talking to you first," a voice of an irritated traffic cop flooded though. Admittedly this was not what you expected. But of course you knew exactly what four boys he was talking about.
"Can you tell me where you are? I'll be right there," you held in an exasperated sigh.
They told you the address and you left quickly. Your Captain popped her head out to ask her where you were headed and you had to simply rely 'family emergency' which wasn't a lie. Especially once you got your hands on Michael. You'd give him a piece of your mind.
You only got angrier on the drive over. Did they know the kind of bad press they would get if the paps found out that they had all been arrested at once? Of course not.
You flicked your cruiser's lights on and moved quickly. Keeping the traffic officer waiting would only make them angrier.
When you finally pulled over behind the traffic stop, you didn't waste any time getting out and turning on the charm while walking to the cop's car.
When you reached the window, you smiled, "hi Officer."
The woman in the car gave you back a miserable look. You felt really bad that she had to put up with the boys for any amount of time.
"Detective Clifford," she greeted you.
"I know this is a lot to ask, but I was wondering if you could just ticket them and not arrest them? I promise I'll drive them home. They just don't need the bad press," you said quickly, begging her with your eyes.
"Why were they going so fast in the first place?" She asked.
"How fast were they going?" Your tone didn't hide your dread very well. Oops.
"Thirty-five over," she said grimly.
You paled, "I'll chew him out, worse than jail," you nodded, "just this little favor please?"
The cop sighed and nodded, "I don't want to deal with them any longer," she handed you the ticket for you to take to them, "just tell him to not pull that again."
"Trust me I will. Thank you so much!" You gushed and stepped back. She saluted and then quickly drove off.
As soon as she was out of view your relieved smile turned to a glare. You marched over to the stopped car. Calum was in the driver's seat, and the boys were blasting Van Halen too loudly while violently air guitaring and head bobbing along.
You ripped the door open. It was unlocked.
"What. The Hell," you held up the ticket, "THIRTY-FIVE OVER? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!"
They disregarded your point of course.
"Aww I still got a ticket?" Calum's face soured as he grabbed the slip of paper from your hand.
"Yay Y/N!" Michael clapped.
"I knew she'd come!" Luke boasted proudly.
"Yeah I came to save your sorry asses from becoming front page news for everyone to gossip over," you snapped.
They fell silent, "I guess I didn't think about paps," Luke admitted.
"Well you should've," you were exasperated and had no patience for this, "now get out I'm driving you home."
"What about my car?" Michael asked.
"Tow it," you spat, gesturing to your cruiser, "Ashton can sit up front since he seems to be the least involved one."
"IT WAS HIS IDEA!" Calum protested.
"You can't prove that," Ashton hissed, running to get shotgun.
"We just wanted to see you," Michael pouted, giving you puppy eyes.
You softened for only a moment, "next time just wait until I have free time. Please."
"Fine," he deflated a little and looked at you pitifully, "I'm sorry."
You gave him a quick hug, "I forgive you, but you still have to sit in the back."
"Darnit!"
