WRITING THIS WHILE DYING THE ENDS OF MY HAIR PURPLE WOOP WOOP (it's temporary lol)
Storytime: do y'all know that thing ppl do where they spell "shook" with the os being their nostrils? I tried to be trendy but I forgot the h and my friend screenshot me so now there's a picture of my nostrils spelling "sook" which is apparent a female crab. But yeah my shame has been immortalized
Michael:
"First match of the year ladies, let's make it a win!" Your team captain, Jade clapped her hands while you all scrambled to get ready. You all were in her garage, loading all of the things you needed into the van so you could take it with you to the workshop and arena that afternoon for the competition.
"I am NOT a lady," the only dude on your team, but an honorary sister, Zack complained.
"Alright, ladies and whiny baby, it's our first match of the year let's make it a win!" Jade corrected herself.
Zack harrumphed loudly as he grabbed a large container full of your various cables and robot parts. He held his chin high as he crossed the room to the van that you were all loading on your way to the competition. It was very early in the morning still as you'd need several hours to test and prepare before you were ready to compete. Plus there was the whole interview part of it, although you were vainly hoping to stay out of the limelight.
You watched as Zack crossed the room, rolling your eyes a little at how extra he was. The boy hung around five very dramatic girls all day, yet he was by far the sassiest.
Problem was, his sassy walk which involved a lot of hip movement and jutting his chin up, did not allow for checking his own surroundings. Or more specifically, the floor.
He ended up walking straight through a pile of loose cords. You winced while you watched him fall to the ground. He let go of the bucket which went flying and spilled all over in front of him. His hands went down in front of him to protect himself and a loud crack was heard as soon as he hit the floor.
"Ah!" He rolled over quickly from his stomach to his back and sat up.
"Oh my God!" Perrie ran over, "Are you okay?"
Zack paled and cradled his left arm, "not really."
You, Jesy, and Leigh-Anne stopped what you were doing and rushed over as well.
"Is it your arm?" You asked, squatting down so you could see it better.
"Yeah, it- wow it really hurts," he hissed.
You looked up at Jesy grimly, "it may be broken."
"Should I call an ambulance?" Perrie pulled out her cellphone.
You glanced at Zack, it was his call.
"Yes please!" He groaned and winced as he shifted.
Perrie nodded and pursed her lips. She stood and walked out of earshot then dialed 911.
"What's going to happen with the competition now?" Zack asked quietly.
You looked at him sympathetically, "don't worry about it, we'll figure something out."
"No," he looked at you urgently, "who's going to drive Slicer?"
You froze. Zack was the only one out of you that was a good robot driver, and it required two hands to operate the controls.
"I guess Leigh-Anne could do it?" You glanced back at your friend who didn't look at all happy with that suggestion.
"Jesy can," she nudged the girl next to you.
"No no, Y/N is much more suited for the job," Jesy smiled nervously.
"Jade is captain," you pointed out.
Jade scoffed, "make Perrie do it."
"We are going to looooose," Zack whined, throwing his head back.
"No we're not," you said quickly as Perrie walked back over, "we just need someone who's good at like video games to control it."
"Who do we know that's good at quickly learning videotape-esque controls who will be free all day today?" Jade asked.
"Michael," you said quickly.
Everyone else considered it and then quickly nodded, "he'll do."
"I'll call him," you grabbed your phone and scrambled to your feet. You were about to dial his number when you remembered Zack.
"Hey Zack," you said, getting his attention.
"What?" He asked miserably.
"Do you want me to see if Luke, Calum, or Ashton are available to go with you to the hospital?" You offered quickly. Since none of you could go with him, you wanted to at least try and find someone who could tag along.
"Please," he groaned and threw his head back, "Lord knows I don't want to go alone."
"Okay," you said and then hit the button.
Michael answered quickly, "how's the competition going?"
"Here's the thing, I'm going to cut to the chase here," you cleared your throat, "I need you to come to the competition with us because Zack was mad that Jade called him a lady and sassy walked into a cord that made him fall and now his arm is broken. Oh yeah, and can you get Luke, Calum, or Ashton to go to the hospital with him?"
"That was a lot of words," Michael sighed.
"Okay I'll break it up, can you come to the competition and drive our robot?" You asked hopefully.
Michael sounded unsure, "I mean if you all really want me to..."
"And can you bring one of the other boys to go to the hospital with Zack?" You added.
"WE'RE ALL COMING WITH HIM!" Calum yelled in the background.
"I'LL GO WITH ZACK!" Ashton said as well.
"Alright, thank you and please hurry!" You tried to wrap up the conversation as sirens were beginning to wail in the distance.
"We'll be there in five," Michael said confidently.
"Good. Gotta go bye!" You hung up as the ambulance came screeching into the driveway.
You waved Jade over, "Michael can drive and he's bringing the boys. Ashton is going with Zack."
"Oh Good," Jade looked relieved.
You both watched as two paramedics jumped out of the ambulance and came rushing inside.
"Who's the patient?" They asked, looking around.
"Me," Zack said weakly, still cradling his damaged arm.
They moved over to help him, crowding out Jesy and Leigh-Anne.
"So..." Jesy asked while shoving her hands in her pockets, "what's the plan?"
"Michael's going to drive at the competition as soon as we teach him how and Ashton's going to the hospital with him," you filled her in.
Right on cue Michael's car came barreling down the opposite side of the street and then parked right outside Jade's house, careful to not block the ambulance's way out. As soon as it was stopped, all of the doors opened and the boys quickly made their way up to the house.
You glanced over at Zack and saw that he had been given an IV, likely for pain medication, and that his left arm had been splinted all the way from his bicep to his palm. Whatever they had given him must've been working as he looked much calmer and more comfortable than how he had a few minutes previously.
One of the paramedics got up and headed back toward the ambulance while the other addressed all of you, "is anyone coming with us to the hospital?"
Ashton, who had just walked into the garage, raised his hand, "I am."
The paramedic nodded while the other one came back with the stretcher from the back of the ambulance. Everyone watched as they helped load Zack on, and then wheeled him over. Ashton sent you a thumbs up and then followed them. Zack and one of the paramedics went in the back, while Ashton and the other paramedic occupied the front seats of the vehicle. Ashton waved once he was buckled in and they started to back out, and the eight of you remaining waved back.
You all watched silently until the ambulance was out of view and Calum spoke up, "so where's the robot?"
Jade pointed to the back of the van. The boys walked over excitedly and peeked in. Sitting in there was Slicer, your pride and joy. The robot has a standard square base with body armor and four wheels. But on top was an arm connected to a giant circular blade that was your main weapon. The arm could move up and down, and in a limited way, side to side.
"That's Slicer," Jesy said proudly.
"That's awesome!" Michael cheered, looking as giddy as a kid in a candy store.
"I see how it got it's name," Luke chuckled.
"Yeah," you shrugged, "we didn't focus on the name too much."
"Who cares?!" Calum exclaimed, "Can we take it out?"
You all nodded and Leigh-Anne and the boys climbed in the back of the car to grab the robot.
"Wow it's heavy," Luke complained while lowering it to the ground.
"It isn't in the heavyweight class for nothing," Perrie shrugged and handed Michael the controller.
"That's forward, backward, steering, on/off for the saw, and that's for moving the saw arm," you pointed to each of the buttons.
"This one's the saw?" Michael asked excitedly, pushing down.
"YES NOW TURN IT OFF!" Jesy jumped back and away from the blade.
"Sorry," Michael went to hit the button again but his finger brushed the controls and the robot turned a little in Luke's direction.
"AH! SLICER NO SLICING!" He screamed and jumped back.
Calum snorted and then laughed loudly, "is that from Dora?"
"Yes," Luke sniffled and eyed Slicer warily, "because Dora is quality programming."
"It's also meant for children," Calum pointed out.
"Age is but a number," Luke waved him off.
You didn't say anything to that because it was none of your business. Instead, you tried to help Michael.
"So let's turn that off," you reached over and hit the button, "now why don't you practice the controls?"
Michael nodded and moved the robot forward, then backward.
"Now do left and right turns," Petrie requested.
Michael obliged and started practicing turning both left and right.
While Michael was beginning to get ahold of it all, you turned to Luke.
"Can you do me a favor?" You asked.
"Depends on the favor," the blond shrugged, watching Slicer with an expression that suggested both interest and fear.
"Can you pretend to be an opposing robot and let Michael chase you around for practice?" You asked.
Luke let out a while from the back of his throat while he thought about it.
"Fiiiine," he finally said.
"Luke's going to pretend to be the enemy," you looked the other way and told Leigh-Anne.
She looked over and Luke and nodded.
Michael must have heard to as he stopped and looked over at Luke with pure delight. He sure did love to torture his friend.
"You're up cowboy," you gave Luke a light shove until he moved out onto the driveway where Slicer was waiting.
"Hey there," he said to it as if it controlled itself instead of Michael.
"It can't talk dummy," Calum giggled from the garage.
"I'm just being careful," Luke sighed, "you never know when kindness to the robots will come in handy."
In response, Michael jerked the robot forward and Luke, who wasn't expecting the movement, rocketed up and away from it.
This made your brother cackle as he properly moved Slicer in the right director and began chasing Luke around the driveway.
Luckily for him, Luke had longer legs and was able to keep a step ahead of the robot.
Michael got tired of losing and looked down at the controls, "hey what does this do?" He pressed down on the small, red, button.
What he accidentally did, was set off one of the secret weapons you hadn't told him about. A giant burst of fire came out the front, narrowly missing Luke's butt.
"AHHHH!" The blonde jumped straight up, "YOU'RE BURNING MY BUNS!"
"So that's what that button does."
