mccall household
When we bring Corey to Scott's house, Mason is already there. They hug each other, relieved to be back in each other's arms.
Once inside, the questions begin.
"Where have you been?" Stiles asks.
"Hiding wherever I can." Corey answers.
"Why are they killing the others?" Scott asks.
"I don't- I don't know. Probably because they are failures."
"Do you know where they Dread Doctors are?" Kira asks.
Corey looks at Theo and than back at Kira. "No. I don't. I probably know as much as you do. All I know is that I'm a failure too and they're going to come for me." Corey says as he stands up. "They're going to kill me."
Scott stands next to Corey. "He's right. We've gotta figure out a way to stop them."
"Argent said something about frequencies." Liam says.
We think for a moment, trying to come up with a way to use this information against the Dread Doctors.
"Disrupt their frequencies." Lydia says.
"And how are we going to do that?" Corey asks.
"I've got an idea." she says as she takes her phone and dials Parrish's number.
--------------------------
"Malia, what's wrong? What happened?" Scott asks over the phone and then puts Malia on speaker for the rest of the pack to hear.
"There's another one. Another dead chimera." she answers.
"Hey, where are you?" Stiles asks. "I'll go to you. I have a plan."
Malia gives my brother her location and they hang up.
"What's your plan?" Scott asks my brother.
"We'll take the body to the animal clinic. I'll set up the camera to record who comes in and out of the examining room.
I'll wait outside to see who comes and goes." Stiles answers.
"Isn't that a little dangerous?" I ask, but the question sounds so stupid considering everything we do is dangerous. "I mean, who knows who could show up."
"I'll go with him." Theo says.
I look at my brother and expect him to reject Theo's proposal but he doesn't.
"You guys focus on Corey. I'll take care of this, don't worry." Stiles says.
"Stiles." I say, being torn between staying with Scott to help protect Corey or to go with my brother.
"It's ok. Stay with them." He says before walking out the door with Theo.
I can't put my finger on it, but somethings going on with Stiles. Ever since that night when the Jeep broke down on him, he's been...distant. Distracted.
-----------------------
We spend the next couple of hours preparing, planning...waiting.
Lydia is with Parrish getting the cell phone jammers ready.
The plan is to use them to disrupt their frequencies, not allowing them to get to Corey.
will it work? I don't know, but it's worth a shot.
Mason insisted on going with us, even though I tried to convince him to stay. He is set on being with Corey and getting him through this.
Liam drove me to my house so I could get some things for the night. Who knows how long we'll need to be there. We picked up some things for Mason on our way to my house.
Scott is on his way to the school with Corey and Mason. Lydia and Parrish are on their way too and Malia is going to meet us at the school. She said she didn't want to spend any more time with another dead chimera. Kira said she won't be going with us, that she's not feeling well. I heard Scott say something about her not being able to find her Katana. Something's off with her too. I think it might be her fox spirit...
"Hey, you ready? Scott just texted me saying they are at the school." Liam tells me as he stands by the door of my room. "Said they're waiting on us."
"Yup. Let's do this." I say and I grab my bag.
--------------------------
beacon hills high school; locker room
Parrish is in his car, keeping an eye on everything that goes on, on the outside.
Malia roams the halls of the school.
Scott, Lydia, Corey, Mason, Liam and I are in the locker room with the doors barricaded and cell phone jammers as our defense.
Corey and Mason stand by the lockers holding hands. They share a quick and sweet kiss.
It brings a smile to my face, knowing that even in some of the darkest of times, love can still find a way into our lives.
Lydia, Scott talk by the other side of the room, though I can't hear what they are saying.
I hate not being able to call Stiles. I want to know if he's ok. If something happens, he won't be able to call us for help. I set on the floor against the lockers, my hands at my side, and I tap my foot nervously.
Liam joins me on the floor. "You ok?"
"Yeah, just worried about Stiles." I respond.
"He'll be ok." Liam reassures me.
He places his hand over mine and gives it a comforting squeeze. I turn my hand over, under his, our palms facing each other, interlocking fingers.
I look over to him and smile. He returns it and places a kiss on my forehead. I lean my head on his shoulder and close my eyes. After a few minutes, I've fallen asleep.
------------------------
I jolt awake 30 minutes later.
"Hey, hey. It's ok." Liam says.
"What happened?" I ask, worried that I missed something while I was asleep.
"Nothing. Everything's fine. We're all ok." he says.
I nod and look down at our hands, our fingers still interlocked. I realize my grip on his hand has tightened. Liam soothingly rubs his thumb over my hand and I feel myself relax and my grip on his hand loosens.
"I'll get you some water." he says and stands up to walk over to the bags Scott brought with him. He stocked up on granola bars and water bottles before we left.
I watch Liam unzip the bag, he reaches into it, but instead of pulling out a water bottle, he pulls out chains.
The sound of the chains clattering echo throughout the locker room, causing everyone to turn in Liam's direction.
"Liam." Scott says as he takes a step towards him.
"What are these for?" Liam asks.
"Brought them just in case." Scott answers.
"In case of what?"
Scott turns to Lydia and then back to Liam. "In case we had a chance to catch one of them. If we can't make the school a fortress, then maybe we can make it a trap."
"So you're using Corey as bait?" Liam asks.
"No, we brought him here to protect him."
Liam shakes his head. "No, you brought him here to use him as bait so you could catch one of these things. It was your plan all along." Liam has raised his voice and I stand up, afraid of how this might end. Mason and Corey walk over to me. Mason and I share a glance. "That was your plan and it didn't matter that Mason was here, or that Veronica was here. You didn't care that you were just putting them in more danger!"
Scott looks down, not knowing what to say.
"Liam-" Mason begins but he's cut off.
"No." Liam says, turning to us. "This plan sucks!"
"Well, you got a better one?" Scott asks, the tone in his voice has changed. "Kids are dying! And yeah, Corey is next so somebody has to do something. Somebody has to save everyone. So somebody has to be the bait!" The entire time Scott has been taking steps towards Liam. They stand right in front of each other.
"Just promise me you won't let anything happen to them." Liam tells Scott.
Scott looks over at us and then back to Liam. "I promise." he replies.
Liam walks away from Scott and right past us to the other side of the locker room where he sits on one of the benches.
I walk over to Scott. I don't say anything. I just take a seat next to him and place a hand on his shoulder. He carries the burden of being the true alpha, the protector of Beacon Hills and he carries it in a way no one else could. He's doing the best he can which is 100 times better than what anyone else could ever do.
Scott suddenly turns in the direction of the door. He looks confused.
"I heard it, too." Liam says, now behind us.
"Heard what?" I ask.
"A car. Parrish's car. I think he just left." Scott says.
"Why would he leave?" Lydia asks.
"I don't know, but I'm going to find out." Scott replies. He goes to the door and moves the lockers we were using as barricades.
"I'll stand by the door to wait for you." Lydia says. "And keep an eye out."
He nods and then turns to look at the four of us. "I'll be right back."
"Be careful." I tell him.
He smiles at me before walking out.
We all exchange glances.
I've got a bad feeling about this.
------------------------------
"It's been like 15 minutes. I'm going to see what's going on." Lydia says.
"I'll go with you." Liam says.
"No. You stay here, with them." Lydia objects.
Lydia is about to walk out when I reach out and grab her arm, not wanting to let her go. "I'll be right back." she says.
But that's exactly what Scott said, and he isn't back yet. Still, I let her go and watch as she walks down the hall and then turns, disappearing from sight.
-------------------------------
"They're taking too long." I say after peeking through the door. I turn to look at the three boys that stand behind me. "I'm going to go look for them."
"Are you crazy?" Mason asks.
"No, I'll go." Liam says. He starts walking past me and towards the door. I place a hand on his chest, stopping him.
I turn to Corey, who looks at me with frightened eyes.
I sigh. "To answer your question, yes, I might be a little crazy." I say to Mason. "And no, you're staying here with them." I tell Liam.
"Well, what if someone shows up?" Liam asks. "And you're by yourself."
"I'll just do this." I say and bring my hand up towards Liam. The pain leaves my hand, directed towards him.
He takes a step back and rubs his chest, where he felt the pain.
"Hurts, doesn't it?" Corey asks.
"Sorry about that." I tell Corey.
He just smiles at me.
Liam takes a couple of steps towards me, standing right in front of me once again. He places his hand gently around the back of my neck, his fingers in my hair. I place my hand on his arm. "Be careful he says."
"Always." I reply. "I promise."
I kiss his cheek before walking out of the locker room and closing the door behind me. I can hear the lockers being pushed back in front of the locker room door, just like I asked Liam to do.
"Scott. Lydia." I say in a whisper. The hallways are dark, only illuminated by the light coming in from outside. It's eerie.
I continue walking down the hallways, taking a couple of turns.
"Lydia? Scott? Where are you?" I say a little louder this time. But there's no answer.
I turn into another hallway, about to call out for Lydia and Scott again but the words get stuck in my throat when I see her lying on the floor almost motionless.
I rush over to Malia and kneel by her side. "Malia! Malia! What's wrong?!" I ask her but she doesn't respond. It looks like she's in pain but there are no wounds, no blood.
"Malia, Malia please!" I say as I touch her hand but it only seems to make it worse as she screams out and fidgets at my touch.
And that's when I hear them. The clicks I heard at the Sheriff's station. I tense and slowly look up, looking into an empty hallway in front of me. Then I turn, and sure enough a Dread Doctor stands there.
I get up and stand in front of Malia's body. The Dread Doctor starts taking steps towards up, getting closer each time.
"Malia, come on ! We gotta go!" I shout towards her, but never take my eyes off the Dread Doctor.
They're close, too close and Malia won't respond, so I stand up straight, take a deep breath and begin to bring my hands up in their direction but I don't even get a chance to do anything because with just one, simple motion of their hand they send me right into a wall of lockers.
I'm unconscious before I hit the floor.
------------------------
"Veronica! Veronica, hey wake up."
The voice is faint, muffled. Someone is trying to shake me awake, but I can't open my eyes just yet.
"Veronica, come on!" The voice says again.
It's clearer this time. Louder.
Malia. It's Malia.
My eyes slowly open and Malia comes into focus. She helps me sit up and rest against the lockers.
I take a couple of breaths, everything is still spinning.
"You ok?" She asks. Her voice heavy with concern.
"Yeah. You?"
"Yeah, think so."
And then I remember. I remember why we are at school so deep into the night.
"Corey." I say. "Mason." I get up, too fast, almost tripping over myself.
I make my way back towards the locker room, and I can see Scott and Lydia rushing in before me. Malia is right behind me.
Once inside, I scan the room. Liam is in a corner struggling to get up. I rush over to him and help him get on his feet.
"They took him." he says, panic in his voice. "Corey and Mason. They're gone."
The rest of the pack has gathered around us. I look at them, they all have expressions of fear on their faces. I turn back to Liam, who uses his arm to wipe blood from his lips.
His panicked eyes meet mine.
this can't be happening.
