Another day begins. My first thought when the bell rang. Despite what happened yesterday, things look like normal. I was with Caroline and Bonnie, who was trying to explain to Caroline what her grandma said about her being a witch.
"I'm confused." Caroline replied to Bonnie.
"Well, technically grandma says I'm a witch. My ancestors were this cool witch-chicks or something, grandma tried to explain it all, but... Crazy family, yes. Witches, I don't think so."
"Yeah, feel free to predict the number of that guy from last night." Caroline said with a wide smirk on her face.
"I didn't see him, you did."
"Wait. Hold on, hold on. Did I hear something about a guy?" I interrupted them.
"A very hot guy, Caroline saw last night at the Grill. Why didn't you talk to him?"
"I don't know, I was drunk."
"So, my dear Caroline, next time you should not drink that much. You never know what happens. Take me, as an example. I never drink and I'm sure that nothing bad, in all meanings, will happen."
"Yeah, let me think, what happened with that Paul guy. He wanted to ask you on a date and you were about to spank him."
"Don't blame me! The dude is too smarmy for my taste. But, if you like that kind of guys, go ahead!"
"Ok, calm down. Paul is a very hot guy. Why didn't you want him?" I sighed.
"Caroline, if you don't stop saying bullshit, seriously, this is not gonna be good. Ok?"
"Fine Miss Unapproachable. Remind me, have you ever had a boyfriend?"
"CAROLINE!"
"Fine, just saying..."
The rest of the day went by quickly enough. After the last period, I found Matt getting into his car.
"Hey, Matt!"
"Hey, Cassie. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I was just wondering how Vicky is doing."
"You want to know how Vicky is doing?" he repeated in disbelief.
"Yes, is that so hard to believe? Ok, I admit that I don't like your sister, but that doesn't implies I want her dead or injured or even in a bad condition."
"Well, thank you for caring for my sister. Or at least don't want her dead. And to answer your question she is doing better."
"That's a good thing. Did she say anything about what attacked to her?"
"She said it was a vampire."
"A vampire?" It was my turn now to repeat his words in disbelief.
"She was probably drunk."
"Yes. You are going to see her now, aren't you?"
"Yes. Sorry, but I have to go."
"Sure, no problem. I hope she gets better soon."
"I hope so too. Bye!" He said getting into his car.
"Bye!" I said, while watching him driving away.
Earlier, about 9:30 a.m., I got a message from Caroline, which said "Meet us at the Grill. If you say 'no I' can't', you have better change planet. x0x0x0" Honestly, this girl sometimes made me really afraid. I arrived at the Grill fifteen minutes later.
"Am I late? Are you going to kill me?" I asked Caroline the moment I got there, in a very 'desperate' tone.
"What are you talking about?" Bonnie wondered.
"If I have to beg for my life, I inform you that there is not even a chance to do so. You know, it's not my type." I continued without paying attention to what Bonnie had said.
"Oh, shut up, take a chair, sit and after you do so, we are ready to start our conversation." Caroline replied with one of her "angelic" smiles.
"Yes, ma' am!"
Bonnie was explaining to us something her grandma had said, but Caroline commented sarcastically, which made Bonnie frown. Then Caroline continued with Elena who simply replied
"So then nothing." But she insisted.
"You and Stefan talked, all night. There was no first kiss or touchy feeling of any kind?"
"No, we didn't go there."
"Not even a hand shake? Elena we are your friends, you are supposed to share it."
"We just talked for hours." Elena tried to defend herself.
"Ok, what is with the blockage? Just jump his bones! Ok, it's easy. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, sex!"
"You are unbelievable." I commented, rolling my eyes.
"Why? It's natural!"
"Sorry, I don't think it's very natural to have sex with somebody whom you met three days ago. It's... so cursory."
"Oh, yes. I forgot you are waiting the prince on the white horse."
"I'm not Caroline. I'm just being realistic."
"No, you are not. You believe in fairytales –and don't say you don't. That's why you are still virgin." My mouth was left hanging open, as I was taken aback by her words.
"I can't believe you said that. But do you know something? I don't care! Do whatever you want, think whatever you think it's right, but I'm sure you will never get my point. It's not that I believe in fairytales, it's just I believe there is something out there worth fighting for and I don't want to lose myself in the process. I'm leaving, because I can't hear anymore." I stood up and start to walk away.
"Cassie, don't leave." Elena followed me.
"No, Elena, that's enough. I know Caroline sometimes is overreacting, but I have never judged or offended her like that."
"I'm sure she didn't mean it."
"Oh, believe me she meant it. But, as I said it doesn't matter. Please go back."
"Will you promise me that you'll try to understand Caroline and forgive her? You know her. You know Caroline Forbes so many years. Don't let this destroy us." I sighed defeated.
"Ok, I promise, but I don't think it'll work."
"I'm sure it will." She said while hugging me. Then, she returned to the table.
So, here I am, at the library, reading a book about Greek mythology. Mr. Green assigned us a project. We should pick a subject of our desire and find information about it. I decided to make a project about Cassandra. I spent three hours studying at the library, so I had collected enough information about Cassandra. The only problem was that I hadn't decided yet what form, my project would have. Presentation or video? I wasn't sure.
However, I didn't have much time to think, as I had to go to the square, where everyone was gathered in order to watch the comet to pass by the Earth. I went home, changed my outfit and then headed to the square. Everybody held a candle and passed the fire to each other. I made sure to light up my candle and sat on the ground. I didn't want to talk with anyone. I needed some privacy.
But, obviously, you can't have privacy in a crowded central square. I didn't realize that Caroline was sitting next to me.
"What do you want?" I asked her.
"I want to apologize. I shouldn't have talked to you like that. I crossed the line. I'm really, really sorry."
"Look, Caroline, I've never understood your beliefs; I've never judged them though. Why do you judge me?"
"I don't know. I just..."
"You just what?"
"Well, you'll probably yell at me, but sometimes I think that if people don't do as I say, they do the wrong thing."
"Nobody is perfect Caroline. And nobody can do whatever you want."
"Yes, I guess you're right."
"I am." She laughed.
"Well, friends again?"
"Friends again. As long as of course you cut down all these bullshit about sex. Ok?"
"Ok!!!" She said hugging me.
I didn't spend a lot of time at the square. The comet was magnificent indeed. I saw Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Matt, Jeremy and Vicky the slut. I gestured at some of them. At 10 p.m. I was so bored that I decided to go back home. Getting into the house, I found my Granny sitting at her favourite armchair near the fireplace.
"Hey, honey, you are back. And it's just 10:15 p.m. What happened?" She said looking at her watch.
"Well, I was bored, so I decided to come back."
"Ok, do you want to keep me company?"
"Of course, Granny." I sat on the coach.
"Is there something you need to tell me?"
"Like what?"
"I don't know, anything."
"No, not really."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Is something you need to tell me?"
"No, honey."
"Granny, really, what's going on?"
"It depends on you."
"I am sick of all these confusing stuff." I said angrily, standing up. I went to me room and straight to my bed.
I was feeling so tired.
