I wake up tired and emotionally drained. The swelling in my ankle has gone down and I can apply more pressure on it than yesterday, but it still hurts.
I change and make my way downstairs, where Stiles and my dad are sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast.
They both look up at me at the same time.
"Hey, you're dressed for school." My dad says. "You don't want to take the day? Rest that ankle?"
"No, I'm all right. Thanks."
"You sure?" Stiles asks.
"Yeah." I say and I force a smile. Truth is, I'm really tired, but if I stay home I'll go crazy with my own thoughts.
Dad calls the school to let them know I'm hurt and might need some extra time getting from class to class and then Stiles and I are on our way to school.
in the jeep
"You know Stiles, I think it's better this way. Now, we don't have to keep things from each other."
"Yeah, you know what? I think you're right."

Stiles helps me get from class to class. Maybe I should've stayed home. My ankle is really hurting right now.
Stiles needs to make up an exam during lunch so I'm on my own.
I'm making my way towards the cafeteria but decide to give my ankle a break. I sit down on the stairs, lean my head against the wall and close my eyes.
"Veronica?"
My eyes fling open.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Scott says.
I laugh. "No, that's ok."
I try to stand up but wince in pain.
"Your ankle still hurts?"
"Yeah." I nod.
Scott sits next to me.
"Here, give me your hand."
"Ok."
He gently takes my hand in his and it's as if the pain is slowly leaving my body. I look down at Scott's hand and see a series of black lines moving up from his hand into his arm.
He lets go.
"Try it now." he says.
I stand up...and I feel no pain. I sit down next to him.
"How did you do that?" I ask in disbelief.
"I can take pain."
"Thank you, Scott."
He smiles at me. "Look, Veronica. I know you're confused and maybe even scared but I promise everything is going to be ok. I'll protect you from whatever is out there. Trust me."
I rest my head on his shoulder. "Thanks. And yes, I trust you. I'll always trust you."
He pats my knee. "You're like a sister to me."
"And you're like a brother to me."
He stands and helps me up. We make our way towards the cafeteria.

I don't ask Scott about Liam, but during lunch Scott tells me what happened anyway.
They were at Lydia's lake house because they had a plan. Kira was to lure Liam there and they were all going to help control Liam during the full moon. Only, they weren't able to and he escaped. They were out looking for him when Derek called and they rushed back to my house. Derek and Scott found him later and were able to help him shift back and then they took him home. Scott said something about teaching him how to control the shift. I think he is going to teach him all the werewolf-y things.
I haven't talked to Liam today. I saw him down the hall earlier but I don't think he saw me.
I did see Mason. He is so unbelievably nice. He carried my books and walked me to English class even though I told him my ankle didn't hurt anymore. Sydney, who is in my 2nd period history class, told him I had fallen and sprained my ankle.
It's only been a few weeks but I already consider Mason one of my closest friends. If not, my best friend.
The school bell finally rings and I can't wait to go home.

Malia is over. She is studying math with Stiles. Every so often, the conversation between them isn't about math but about something else. They laugh and then the go silent. They are so cute together.
Malia knows that I know now. She showed me her glowing blue eyes. They are beautiful, just like her.
Also, they explained the whole deer and pizza thing to me. Now I can laugh too.
After I finish my homework I get into bed.
I reach for my phone.
A text from Dad:
A text from Lydia:
A text from Mason:
Nothing from Liam. I think about calling him or texting him but realize that if he hasn't tried to contact me yet, it's because he doesn't want to talk to me, or because he's not ready to. He has a lot going on right now.
After replying to the texts, I place my phone on the night stand, close my eyes and fall into a deep sleep.
next morning
I wake up, thankful it's a Saturday.
Dad, Stiles and I go out for breakfast. Dad drops us off home before heading over to the Sheriff's Station.
I spend the weekend watching Star Wars with Stiles, occasionally bringing up the supernatural. Malia joins us on day two of our Star Wars marathon.
"I'm hungry." Stiles says. "Should we order something?"
"Yeah, sure." Malia says.
"Nothing with deer in it though, thanks!" I say.
Its quiet before we all burst out laughing.
While Stiles is ordering the pizza, which we never seem to get tired of, over the phone, Malia says to me: "I'm glad you get the joke now."
"Yeah, me too." I say.

It's Monday. I'm at my locker getting some books I'll need for my English class today.
I'm in such a hurry that I don't even notice Liam standing behind me. As I turn I bump right into him, dropping my books.
"Liam! Geez, you scared me."
"I didn't mean to, sorry." he says as he bends down to pick up my books. He hands them over to me.
"Thanks."
He nods. The hallway has already cleared out for the most part.
"Where's Mason?" I ask.
"He went home earlier. Wasn't feeling well."
"Oh.."
"Actually, I was wondering if you and I could talk? Maybe later today?"
"Sure, yeah."
"Ok. I'll meet you after school. At the lacrosse field?"
"I'll meet you there."
The bell rings, indicating we are late. We both hurry to our classes.
lacrosse field; after school
Stiles, Scott, Malia, Lydia, and Kira are in the library studying. I told Stiles I'd meet up with him later. He doesn't ask why. I think he already knows.
When I get to the bleachers I see Liam sitting down, staring out into the field in front of him. I walk to where he sits.
"Hey." he says gently.
"Hey."
We sit in silence for a while. I tug on my mom's necklace as I wait for him to say something.
He finally turns to me and says: "So...you know I'm a werewolf?"
"Yup. Scott and Stiles told me."
"Oh." he says.
I nod.
"I just- I'm sorry about before. I'm still learning to control this and I've had anger issues before and on the full moon...it just made things worse. And I didn't want to hurt you or Mason."
"It's ok. I understand. Scott explained the whole thing to me."
"Really? You're not mad at me?"
"Well, I was but not anymore. I mean I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of this, but I understand."
He smiles at me and lets out a sigh of relief.
"It's just that people have a hard time accepting me because of...all of my anger issues and this is just going to make it worse. Mason has been the only one. And now...you. I guess I just don't want to ruin that. And I don't want to hurt you."
He looks out onto the field, away from me.
I gently put my hand on his cheek and turn his face towards me.
"You don't have to worry about that with me." I say.
He smiles at me.
"Are you planning on telling Mason?" I ask.
"No. Not yet."
"Well, whenever you're ready. I know he'll always be by your side. And you can trust me. You can also trust Scott."
He nods. "Thanks."
We stay there for a while. Talking. I tell him about my mom. He tells me about his parents divorce. About his step-dad who works in the hospital with Melissa. We just sit there, learning more about each other, being completely honest and open with each other.
My phone rings. It's Stiles.
"I have to go."
"Yeah, ok. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow."
We hug goodbye and I meet Stiles and Malia in the parking lot. It's time to go home.
