*buzz, buzz, buzz*
My alarm goes off.
I sit up on my bed and stretch my arms above me. And then I get a sudden wave of panic. But why?
Stiles. My Dad. Did either of them come home last night? Was I in such a deep sleep that I didn't hear them? Or did they not come home?
I rush out of my room and practically sprint down the hallway, down the stairs and into the living room when I crash into my Dad.
"Ah. Geez, Veronica. Where are you going in such a rush?"
"Dad! Oh my God, you're ok!...Wait, Stiles. Where's my brother?!"
"I'm right here." He says as he walks out of the kitchen holding a bowl of cereal. He takes a spoonful to his mouth.
I let out a sigh of relief.
"It's just, uh...I didn't hear you guys come in last night and I got worried."
My Dad smiles at me and puts his arm around me. "We're fine. Now go get ready for school." He gives me a kiss on the forehead.
"Yeah, ok."
I quickly get ready and join Stiles in the kitchen. I make myself a PB&J sandwich and pour myself a glass of milk.
I sit across from Stiles at the table. I just look at him. Waiting for him to give me an explanation as to why he ran out last night.
"What?" he asks, with a mouthful of cereal.
"So, what happ-"
"Alright guys, I'm off to work," my dad says from the door. "See you tonight. Stay out of trouble. Especially you Stiles." he says with a laugh as he walks out the door.
I laugh as well.
"Ha, yeah. Very funny dad." Stiles replies.
I pick a piece of bread off my sandwich and throw it at Stiles. He throws it back with a laugh.
"Ok, hurry up! Lets go! I'm leaving you if you don't get to the Jeep at the same time I do."
"Ok, ok!" I say, taking a final bite of my sandwich.
We brush our teeth and grab our backpacks and we are out the door at the exact same time.
Our ride to school is silent, until I work up the courage to ask Stiles what really happened last night, but I already know how this conversation is going to end.
"So, are you going to tell me what was so urgent last night that you lied to me and met up with Scott?"
He sighs. "Listen, Veronica.."
"Don't worry about it." We both say in unison.
"Yea, I know, I know. I just...I just worry, ok? You're my brother and Scott is practically my brother too. I just want to know everything is ok. Will you at least answer that honestly? Is everything ok?"
He's quiet for a little while and then he answers: "Yes. Everything is...fine."
I nod. "All right."
Stiles pulls into the parking lot and parks his beloved Jeep. We get out of the Jeep and Stiles tells me he is going to meet Malia, that he'll see me at lunch.
I'm walking towards my class when I see Lydia, gorgeous as usual.
"Hey, Veronica!"
"Hi Lydia."
"It's good to see you around school now."
"Thanks!"
"How are you liking Beacon Hills High so far?"
"Umm, I'm liking it so far."
She smiles. "Fantastic. Well let me know if you need anything."
"Thanks so much Lydia. I definitely will."
She pulls me in for a hug and is on her way.
As I'm walking to class I see Stiles and Scott down the hall. They are talking to someone. Liam? It can't be. He couldn't even walk yesterday and now he's at school standing on his own two feet?
I duck behind the corner and try to see if I can hear what they are talking about but I can't. I take a look around the corner and see Liam walking towards me. Scott and Stiles are walking away from us.
When Liam turns the corner I reach out and grab his arm.
He angrily pulls away, startling me.
"Sorry." he says.
"Um, thats ok. I just wanted to see how you were doing."
"I'm fine." he says under his breath. Never once looking at me but always keeping his eyes on the floor.
"I'm glad to hear that."
"Yeah. I uh...I gotta go." he says as he makes his way to class.
"Yeah, ok." I say, mostly to myself.
I turn around and start walking towards class.
Weeeeell, that went well. I think to myself.
I go on about my day, trying to forget about my encounter with Liam earlier.
I meet up with my brother, Scott, Malia, Lydia and Kira for lunch. I'm not with them for long though. Sarah, a girl from my math class wanted me to help her finish the homework before class, so I did.
The school day is finally over and I'm walking out of the school to meet Stiles.
As I walk out of the school, I see a crowd gathering near a bus from a visiting school. Devenford Prep. They are here to play a scrimmage game for lacrosse. In the middle of the crowd I see Liam. It looks like he is getting into some sort of confrontation with a student from Devenford Prep.
I think about going over there, but after what happened earlier today, I decide not to.
Then, out of nowhere, I see Stiles and Scott at Liam's side. Liam curls his hands into fists. Next thing I see is Scott and Stiles leading him towards the locker room.
I wait by Stiles' Jeep. I wait and wait and wait. The crowd has cleared out and so has the parking lot. Stiles finally shows up. He asks me if I want him to drop me off at home or if I don't mind waiting for him to play the lacrosse game. I tell him I'll wait. There's really no point in having him drive me home just to come back. Plus, I love to watch my brother play lacrosse.
While I wait for the game to start, I work on my homework in the library. After I finish my homework I meet up with Malia and we begin to walk towards the lacrosse field.
We cheer on the team, but unfortunately they lose.
We go back home and have dinner with my Dad and Malia.
After dinner I go upstairs to my room. I take a warm shower, put on my pjs and call it a night. But right before I drift off, I hear a wolf howl in the distance.
