I realized it was a vice,
And I tried to quit it
Too many times.
But it always managed
To come back and damage
The progress I'd survived.
Sometimes I gave in
And other times I tried
To push it back for a while.
But it always gripped me vice
And took me back inside
The pit that I'd just climbed.
And when I finally found
My way out of the bind,
A reminder came knocking back -
Something I'd set up
Before I changed my track -
And I fell right back down
Clawing my way south
Trying to climb out
But landing myself supine.
