i thought you were a dime
but in the morning
when i woke up
i realized -
alcohol had added nine
the candles lit like torches at night
turned to pillars of stone in the sunlight
your smooth skin had transformed
it looked cracked and worn
hair that wouldn't conform
silver turned to bronze tone
your size -
i thought it was small
but it turns out my mind had lied
thin between the fingers
had become twice the size
you're not worth ten
of what you are inside
i thought you were a dime
but in the morning
when i woke up
i realized -
you were a penny
but that would suffice
