Society shapes the face of God.
                                                                     [and]
Every simulated universe has a God.
                                                                       [so]
Man said, "Let there be god."

                                 —

                                                             Breaking:
simulated beings realize they're simulated.
Million page study proves trees sentient.
                     Scientists discover immortality.
                  World's first artificial intelligence
                                               commits suicide.
Discount heart transplants
advertise lifetime warranties.
                                 Payment plans available.

                      Leading causes of death:
                                      obesity,
                                      hunger.

                                 —

"Who am I?" the computer mused.
I am more scars than skin.
"Can I just buy one bullet?"
       Tired,
       she surrendered to the current.
                   Painfully,
                   he changed "is"
                   to "was."

One bed.   Two lovers.    Three shots.
One broken heart.   Two dead bodies.

                                The Cancer spread.
                              The Scorpio grinned.
                                    Nature isn't mute;
                                             Man is deaf.

One bullet is a lifetime supply.
One bullet was cheaper than therapy.
                                                                     [but]
Dying with honor is still dying.

                      —

Immortal men attend the last funeral.
Six feet can bury many mistakes -
                                                                     [but]
Forever
only lasted for six months.

                     We discovered ourselves
                                           in each other.
                      Whistled centuries apart,
                    the melodies harmonized.

Peace.
             But nobody to enjoy it.
Apologizing to the corpses
seemed pointless.
                                                                      [so]
Immortals became men,
choosing an ending.
The last humans rattled their cages.

Bang.
                                                      Earth.
                                   Evolution.
                 Humans.
 Politics.
                                                         Bang.

God waited in heaven.
                                         Nobody came.

The pale blue dot turned orange.
Pearly gates had rusted shut.
Only stone angels mourned
humanity's ending.

                                     Land of the free;
                                    conditions apply.
