Y/n's pov.
I dismount my horse and tie the rein on the branch and grab my battle axe.
" Are you sure this is the place where she meant? " Heidi asked.
" Positive, she and I used to watch the sunset here at the old cabin " I said and look down at my axe.
It's new, lighter and bigger, the handle is about half of my height so I have a better swing, I wrap my fingers around the handle to have a better grip and look over my shoulder to Heidi who got out her sword.
" Ready? " I asked.
" As I'll ever be " she said then walk pass me.
I turn my head back in front to this beach just a few hours further away from Kaigon, I walk down the path following Heidi. I catch up to her and we walk side by side with our boot prints left on the sand with the ocean to our left, the sun is above the water and the sky is a little yellow.
" What do you think she's up to? " Heidi asked, I shrug.
" Probably boobytrapped the entire place, weaken us first then she'll do the final fatal blow " I said.
" Sounds like Syrene " she said, I chuckle.
" This is actually my fight, you didn't have to come " I said.
" If you didn't then why tell me?, You know I won't turn down a fight when it comes to Syrene " she said.
" That's exactly why, I'm more worried about Paige than you, if you die she's going to rain fire on me " I said, she chuckles.
" Don't worry, I told her not to " she said, I snicker.
" I don't trust that a single bit " I said.
" Trust it "
I look up ahead of me where I see the old abandoned cabin on this beach, it's small and it's clear that no one has been in there because of how cloudy and dirty the windows are.
" You first " I gasped after I was pushed forward lightly and I turn my head to her in disbelief.
" What?, You said it yourself, it's your fight, I'm not dying first " she smiles, I roll my eyes and sigh.
I step up the small steps of the porch and get close to the door, I didn't hesitate to just open it and let it swing open all the way. Standing here as I look around inside, the memories flashed through my head and it's very dusty as well as cobwebs in all corners. I take a deep breath to smell the old wood rotting in this place and exhale to step in, I see one bed in the corner, a wardrobe, small kitchen, and a ladder going up the roof. There's not much in here than the fireplace and a few furniture like the dining table and one lantern with a few kitchenware's.
" Is this where you and her went for every sunset? " Heidi asked.
" It's where she used to help me after I get a beating " I said then walk up to the bed where the bedside table is.
I pick up the bowl of medicine which has rotted and collecting dust, I put it back down then turn around to Heidi touching a hanging chime bells made out of wood, she lightly taps it and it chimed.
" That's hers " she turn her head to me.
" It's the first decoration she's ever made for this house " I said.
She snickers.
" Sentimental Syrene " she said.
" Now the question is where is she? " I said and look around this small cabin.
There's no other doors and from the look of the outside, there wasn't anyone on the roof so she can't be there.
" Well, she's late to her own party " she said.
I turn to the wardrobe that's shut which shouldn't be because I remember it perfectly that there wasn't any doors to shut. I stand on the side of the door then use my axe to place it gently on the knob.
" What are you doing? " Heidi asked.
" Step back " I said and she did.
I pull it open and got startled by the sound of a snap, an arrow shot through to hit the wooden wall.
" Goddamn it " I said and go around the door to see a crossbow has been set up.
I see the string is attached to the door and crossbow, Heidi approaches the wardrobe.
" Shit, where'd she learned to do that? " She asked.
" I taught her that " I said.
She turns to me with a disappointed expression.
" What?, It was a prank on the old crone but it was eggs on a slingshot " I said.
" Great, what else did you teach her?, Make a pit for me to fall in-. . . " she steps forward.
We heard a snap and not long after that the floor breaks and she falls through.
" Heidi! " I shout as she screams.
I rush over to the hole and kneel down where I see her on the ground groaning.
" Are you okay?! " I asked and she turns sideways where I see there was blood on the ground.
" I think I might got a concussion " she holds her head lying there, I wince.
" You had to open your big mouth didn't you? " I asked.
" Ughh, your already giving me a headache " she said as she sit up.
" Can you find a way up?, Or do I gotta go down there and get you? " I asked.
She sit there looking around.
" Oh shit " she said and get up quickly.
I look around as well and my eyes widened when I see big spiders and when I said big, I meant big ones and plural.
" Cave spiders " she said.
I reach in my pocket and take out a bottle of antitoxin.
" Here catch this! " She looks up and I drop the bottle as she caught it.
" I see a tunnel, I'll find a way out!, Try to find Syrene! " She said as she unsheathe her sword and dodge a jumping spider.
I see her running off to the left and my eyes widened to see how many cave spiders running off with her.
" Found her "
I look up at the door where I see the woman smirking with her arms folded and no weapons with her, I sit up and snicker.
" Speak of the devil " I said.
" And there's the angel " she said.
I get up from the floor and pick up my axe.
" We've dealt with cave spiders hundreds of times, she'll live " she said and walk off.
I furrow my eyebrows and step over the pit to walk out of the house, I was about to chase her when I see her walking down the beach calmly towards the ocean and I step down the stairs in confusion.
" Bringing Heidi was a coward move, thought you'll come alone like I asked you to " she said.
" She volunteered, if you hadn't involved her in this she wouldn't be here " I said.
" Well anyways, now she's out of the way, we can talk this out " she said.
I watch as she approach the shore and stand there as the wind blows at her face.
" What are you doing? " I asked as I walk on the sand towards her.
" What do you think?, Enjoying my last sunset with you " she said.
I cautiously approach her as I hold my axe firmly.
" Could be yours, who knows " she turns to me with a smile.
" I'm not stupid and so are you Syrene, what are you doing? " I asked again and she snickers.
" This is why you suck at dates, drop the axe, we're spending our time together, it's the golden hour silly " she approaches me.
I step back and she stops in her track.
" Don't play dumb with me " I said.
She stands there as her face expression drops to a cold one.
" Your really an unforgivable person aren't you? " She asked.
" Unforgivable?, Have you look at what you've done to my life?, Think about what you did to me and you want me to forgive you the unforgivable?!, I can't do that! " I said.
" I did you a favor "
" You tried to kill me twice!, I left you alone for so many months and yet you still hunt me down like a deer!, Why won't you leave me alone?! " I shout.
" Because your that special and deserve an enemy! " She shouts back at me and I scoff.
" So this is what it's all about?, You hate me for what happened that night, well I'm sorry babe but I never wanted this! " I said.
" Fuck you! " She screams and I see tears stream down her face.
" I hate you ever since that night we we found out about your immunity, so fuck you for being so special " she said.
" I never said I was special!, You pushed me away and chose your selfishness over me! " I said.
She let out a scream then run towards me, my eyes widened when she leaped and I groan as I land on the ground with her on top of me. I then scream in pain when a blade punctured through my shoulder, I grunt in pain as I hold her wrist and she twists it slowly but I struggle for her not to.
" I know why you were dumped here!, Your nothing but just a whoreson left to die! " She said.
I yelp and struggle to keep the dagger from going in deeper.
" So today you die " she said.
My other hand grips my axe and I use the back of the blade to swing and hit her in the head, I scream when she pulled the dagger out and I got up, turning around immediately. I see she did the same thing and both of us are on our knees, she holds her bloody dagger and I hold my axe, I wince looking at my shoulder where she stabbed me. She has a cut on her head from the impact of my blade and she chuckles.
" Sun is setting " I said.
" I know " she smirks.
We get up cautiously and I keep an eye on her movements.
" A little bit unfair don't you think?, Me with a dagger and you with an axe " she said.
I scoff again then toss my axe aside before unsheathing my dagger.
" Remember this? " I hold up the dagger as we start walking in circles.
The tension is high in between us as the wind blows at us, luckily my hair is tied up and so is hers.
" You left me in the woods to die, Gia died for the cause so give up " I said.
" That's the problem, your still alive! " She strikes down and I dodge her by ducking.
I swing my dagger and cut her side as she yelp, I quickly run behind her and grab her body with my arm around her then my dagger against her neck.
" Stop it!, Don't make me do this " I said.
" Then I guess I have to force you "
