" What's this? " I asked as I take the small vial from Derek.
He passes the same one to my brothers and I look inside to see some black beads of some kind are inside. I shake it to hear it rattle a little.
" It's an antitoxin, their magical " Derek said.
" For venomous creatures " Eli said.
" Creatures from the dark realm are not to be underestimated "
" Just in case you get bitten or stung take one and you should be fine for the next three hours, but you have to come back to base immediately to have it properly cured " Derek said.
" Mother made this " Faris said.
" How'd you know? " I asked.
" The bottle has her initials " he flips it to the bottom of the glass where we see it engraved in the glass.
" Your all my children, I expect you all to return home safe " Derek said.
" Thank you " Declan said.
" Sucking out the venom from the wound directly should give extra time too "
All the boys turn to me.
" What?, You learn a thing or two when you go paddy farming, and you said it's magical, it's not going to work for me " I said and then put it in my side pouch.
" If I see a snake, I'm taking it's head off first, no offense Yesh' " Elliot said then leave the tent.
" Offense taken " Yeshua said then leave the tent.
" I'll tend to my horse " Declan bows to Derek then leave as Faris follows.
Once he left with Aaron too I stand here awkwardly and look at Derek.
" I assume you have something for me other than a bottle of medicine? " I asked, he snickers.
" Yes " he turns around.
" Knew it " I mumble.
I see him opening a some kind of rectangular flat box and he takes out a huge recurve bow. I stand here in awe to see how beautiful it is, the thing is white with a golden line spiral around it, both ends has some kind of white feathers preserved. Where the arrow rest has a silver plate wrapped around and the string for it is a fine blue color, it's a little shiny, there's even some gemstones imbedded by the silver plate of the arrow rest.
" Forged by the ancestors of your mother " he said and hold it out to me.
" Why are you giving it to me? " I asked.
" She wants you to have it, I know you can use it very well " he said.
I take it with both of my hands and it's lighter than I expected, holding it up, I pull the string back and it's strong, as I let go a purple glow occurred for a second.
" Whoa " I said than lower it a little.
" It's enchanted too " I turn around to him with a confused face.
" Enchantments were banned years ago, as well as enchanted weapons, but now the law has been lifted, you may have it, your mother's family heirloom so please don't lose it or she'll have my throat instead of yours " he said.
" What was she like?, During the war I was lost in? " I asked.
" The war lasted almost two years, and you were there in the process, no one was able to protect you so I had to give you away, your mother was in better shape then " he said then step closer to me.
Placing his hands on my shoulders.
" And I hope you understand the situation " he said.
" I do " I said and he smiles but fades away quick.
" But I want you to be serious this time, dark creatures are not to be underest- "
" Underestimated, you said it already old man and I read about them in the library " I smile and he snickers before letting his hand slip off my shoulders to his side.
" I'm immune to magic remember? " I asked and he hums.
" Here " he grabs a small thin quiver where I see there's only three arrows inside.
" Why are there only three? "
~ Time Skip ~
" Whoa!, Arctic owl feathers! " I watch as Lumina takes one arrow out of my quiver.
Her eyes analyze the silver shaft carefully with her slim fingers sliding up to the arrowhead where it's just shining from the sun's reflection.
" These are ancient arrows used in the battle of Krisila! " She said then turn the arrow over to where the white feather is.
It has a white gemstone imbedded just at the cylinder line.
" The battle of what? " I asked.
" Where'd you get these?! " She asked.
" It's my mom's, she gave it to me " I said, she looks at me with a shock expression.
I then realize she's not looking at me by the bow on my back.
" It is the bow! " She runs behind me.
" Hey! " I turn around and she whines.
I grab the arrow from her hand.
" It's not something you can touch, it's an heirloom that was passed down from my mom side of her family, I need to be careful with it " I said then put the arrow back on the quiver.
" But it's the bow that won the battle of Krisila, and it's one of the first weapon to be enchanted " she pouts.
" Three arrows only? " Judy asked.
" It has it's reasons, you'll see " I said.
" You guys got cool weapons, I have an old book " Lumina hugs the book in her arms.
" It's in good condition for it to be old " I said.
" Apparently this is my family's heirloom, we're mages and warlocks so my mom gave it to me just now, told me she'll burn all my book collection if I ever lose it " she said with a sad face.
" Your lucky to have an heirloom entrusted with you, mine is just something I got for myself " Judy said.
" It's better than nothing " I said.
" Alright!, Let's set out! " We hear a man shouts.
" Let's go " Judy said.
Us girls parted and head to our horses, I made sure my hairpin is securing my hair in place properly before mounting the horse.
" Ready Spirit? " I hold his rein and he sort off shake his head and his ear twitch.
I chuckle then give a light kick as we a start moving, the army has been separated to different groups to hunt some mythical creatures that have breeched our boarders. Our group are headed to the northeast and I only recognize a few people of this batch that are going.
I sort of begged Derek to put me in this troop.
" Hey " I look to my right where Laurence is and smile.
" Hi " I said.
" How's your face? " He asked.
" It's fine " I said.
" Are you sure your up for this? " He asked.
" I don't see you asking the other girls " I said, he snickers.
" Sorry, I can't help myself when it comes to you " he said, I smile and nodded.
" I get it but don't worry, I'll be careful " I said.
" I know you will " he said.
I see he has a fancy ring on his finger.
" Did your mom gave you that? " I gesture.
" My father's " he said.
" Oh, sorry I asked " I said
" It's alright, my mother let me use it this once while my father is still in his coma and then I am to return it to her in one piece or I'm the one to be in two pieces " he said, I chuckle.
" Why is everyone's mom a little vicious? " I asked.
" What do you mean? " He asked.
" Lumina just told me not long ago that miss Layla would burn her book collection if she doesn't take care of her family book heirloom " I said, he snickers.
" Heirlooms are more valuable than you think " he said.
" I know what an heirloom is if that's what your trying to say " I said we both chuckle.
" I see you got yourself one too " he said.
" Derek gave it, and it's my mom's, he got the threats instead of me " I said.
" At least you know who's the favourite child " he said, I shrug.
" She loves all of us, picking favorites are not really her thing " I said.
" I also never asked how you are after this morning " he said, I look back in front of me and shrug.
" Okay I suppose, it was unexpected of course and it's just a cut on my face, It'll heal up " I said.
" You can handle a cut " he said, I nodded.
" How far is the northeast boarders? " I asked.
" A few hours, probably at nightfall " he said.
" Nightfall?, Dark creatures are strong during the night, I'd say that's a dumb idea " I said.
" Not really, if it's at it's strongest, it's the same at its weakest " he said.
" I don't think that's how it works " I said.
" You never know, and we don't know what we're facing off so that's why we bring all the weapons necessary " he gestures to the three wagons carrying for this team.
" Can I ask? " I turn back to him.
" Why three arrows? " He asked.
" The enchantment which I hope helps, Derek also told me some of the outlying villages are already attacked " I said.
" Fourteen casualties so far " he said.
" Already? " I asked, he nods.
" That was quick "
~ Time Skip ~
" Potions? " Laurence tugs on my thigh holster of potions, I hum in response.
" I can't do spells, so potion's my plan B " I said and see there's small vials just lined up on the side of my thigh in it's slot.
Arranged in 4 × 4, I only have one strap for one thigh and I manage to make sixteen different potions.
" If that's plan B, what's plan A? " Laurence asked.
" Attacking it with you guys " I said.
" And C when you run out of potions? " He asked.
" I beat the shit out of the demon with my bow " he chuckles and nodded.
" Acceptable " he said and I shrug.
" I hit hard " I said.
" I can tell " he said then turn to his horse.
I adjust the strap to my quiver on my back and I watch as he struggle to close the satchel, his fingers are shaking and he's really trying. I approach him and place my hand on his as I look at him, he sighs as I secure it for him.
" You don't have to be scared " I take his other hand and put them on my face.
" I'm here, we're all in this together " I look up at him and he smiles lightly.
" Thank you " he leans his forehead down to mine with his eyes closed.
After a few seconds he lift his head and I let go of his hand.
" Don't worry, we'll get out of here sooner than we thought " I said.
" You love birds done? " We turn our head to my left and see Heidi approaching.
" Let me guess, Paige sent you " I fold my arms across my chest and she snickers.
" Laurence, do you mind?, I need to talk to her " she said.
Laurence looks at me and I gave him a reassurance nod.
" I'll meet you with the others " I said.
" Okay " he said then gave a light glare at Heidi as he walk away.
" Is Nadia here too? " I asked.
" No, I just want to say a few things before we go in there and one of us dying " she said.
" Make it quick " I said.
" I still regard you as a sister and what happened in the past is in the past, I want to at least know we're in good terms before we die " she said.
" I thought we agreed to never bring it up again " I said, she sighs.
" I still don't forgive you, and your definitely not my sister anymore " I said, she stands there with a nod like she was expecting that answer.
" But it was nice to have one considering what we went through " I said.
She looks at me with a smile.
