Chapter 17

Sitting quietly in the passengers seat with the belt strapped over my chest I stare out into the greenery of the forest. The black belt starts to hurt my chest as we bump over yet another rock.

His heavy breathing reaching my ears ever so often. Wind hitting my face as the windows open only a little.

Taking a quick peek at Alex I find his lips in a very firm straight line. His eyes move over the scene in front of us every so often.

Anger seeps out of every pore of his tense body as he makes the car take a sharp turn to the right.

The car stops suddenly and he lets out a loud and annoyed sigh. "Can you stop?!" He hisses through clenched teeth.

Feeling taken back at his odd question I turn slightly to find him staring directly at me with his dazzling blue eyes.

"Can I stop what?" I feel him become tense as my eyes meet his. His lips turn down into a very angry looking frown.

"You know what you're doing." His head turns sharply forward and then he turns around to look at the back seat.

He tosses me a long sleeved shirt and grumbles something under his breath before turning his gaze to me.

The soft material sit in my hands as I finger the tag poking out from the top. "Put it on."

His voice cuts through me like a knife. His voice is cold and detached as I feel his intense gaze plastered on the side of my face.

I look up and then turn my eyes back down to the shirt. Pulling my top off I hear him take a sharp breath.

Turning to him with just my bra on I raise an eyebrow as his eyes slowly find my chest and he turns away suddenly. "What." I ask with confusion clear in my voice.

"Put the shirt on." He mumbles and I feel his whole attitude change.

I look down at my bare chest as realization hits me. "Oh right I forgot humans have a problem with seeing each other without cloths on." I sigh and shrug the top over my head.

Pulling the sleeves down to cover my mark I play with a lose string at the end and with a little pull it comes off, it lays limply in between my fingers before I drop it onto the floor.

He groans and I feel myself stiffen. "What are you doing to me." His voice sounds strange as if he does no know how to use it.

Then with the sudden change another one comes. "Why are you acting so strange." I deadpan and he stiffen only telling me that there is something wrong.

"I'm not acting strange. I could easily ask you the same question." He huffs as he tries to dodge my question.

"First you didn't answer my question and second I act this way every single day." He gribs the steering wheel as I feel his angry rise a notch.

"You know what forget about it." He says quickly as he starts to fiddle with the keys.

"Forget about it, I asked you the question. Not the other way around." My confusion most be written all over my face because the minute he turns to me guilt fills his eyes.

His blue eyes make me more confused because nothing makes sense. All his useless words fill my head as stare at him with one eyebrow raised.

"Alex please tell me what's wrong." I beg and go to reach for his hand. He lets me touch him as I wrap my fingers around his hand. He sighs and leans back in his seat.

"Please let it go Emily. Just please." He whispers sounding defeated. I sigh softly and squeeze his hand before releasing it.

"Okay." I say quietly and remove my hand from his.

The heat starts to make the car stuffy and the sun beats down making my legs feel very hot and slightly burned.

He sound of the engine brings me out of my little daze as he starts the car up once again.

His word filled with unanswered lies as his fingers slowly slide over the rough leather of the wheel. Ever so often Alex leans forward and turns his head ever so slightly to take a look at me but I never meet his gaze.

His words confuse me as I drum my fingers on the arm rest attached to the door. The soft sound of my fingers drumming filling my ears.

My Fingers itching to touch him as he turns his head to let out a almost silent sigh.

Then with a rattle and a loud pop the car stops. A loud angry sigh fills the empty space and I turn my head slightly to see Alex with a straight line for a mouth.

He turns his head and looks directly into my eyes. "Did you put gas into the car before leaving."

"Gas?" I ask as the word he had just said passes past my lips with a slightly confused thoughts. The foreign word rolls around on my tongue as I try to remember the meaning.

"Yes, gas the liquid you put into a car so it will run." I take a second to try to think if I ever put liquid into the car.

"I thought the car just ran on its own." Alex sighs loudly and grips the wheel until his fingers turn a shade of white.

He throws the door open and has a little tantrum outside before straighten up and taking a deep breath. "I will go check the back to see if I still have some spare fuel." He gives me a weird look before disappearing from my view.

After a few seconds a loud rattling sound vibrates through the car. Turning my head I find Alex's fist connect with the back of the car through the little window.

He stomps his way back to the front and puts his hands a lot more calmly down on the drivers seat. Looking up to his face a frown covers it and his face looks like a bright red tomato.

"Are you okay." I ask as he takes a few labored gasps of air. His hands ball up into fist as the words leave my mouth. "Peachy." His responds in clipped and short tone as he starts to pull the duffle bag out from the back of the car.

"What are you doing." I watch as he pulls everything out from the car and swing it over his shoulder.

"We are walking." He says slowly as if I can not understand him. I raise an eyebrow at his blank expression as he starts to walk forward leaving me alone in the car.

Pushing the heavy door and peaking my head out I yell. "Where are you going." He turns around and walks backwards.

"Your wasting light, know lets go." He yells back as I plant my bare feet on the ground.

Slamming the door shut and taking a look around the sun shines directly above casting little to almost no shadow as I start to run after him.

"Wait will you!" He does not even flinch as I scream at him he just keeps on walking without a care in the world.

Catching up to him he keeps a fast pace as my legs do not agree with the walking. He holds the duffle bag over his shoulder and takes long strides.

With every step he takes I have to jog just to keep up because he is massive compared to me.

"So where are we going." I break the silence after a few minutes of stepping on hard rocks and soft ground.

"You'll find out when we get there." He says in a clipped tone and keeps his fast pace.

The sun beats down on my face as we keep walking forward. "I'm hot." I say after thirty minutes of rivers of sweat rolling down my face.

He grunts but does not slow down for me, not even a little. Getting slightly bored of his silence treatment I start to look around at the different colors of flowers and birds that swoop down every so often.

The flowers sway softly to the breeze that rushes through the trees. My feet start it hurt as the sun dips down into the horizon.

I run my fingers through my hair trying to get the locks out of my face.

Cool night air starts to wrap around me as we keep on walking. Alex stops suddenly making me almost run into his back.

"We will have to make camp for the night." He scans the area with his eyes before throwing the bag down onto the floor.

Wiggling my toes in the soft dirt I watch a butterfly land right on the tip of my big toe and I let out a quiet giggle that catches Alexs attention.

His head whips around and he stares at me for a second before moving his eyes down to my foot where the pretty little insects flaps its wings.

The different colors of orange paints the little creatures wings.

"How does it feel to fly." He keeps his eyes plastered on the little insect. "It's amazing. I feel free while I fly." I smile as the butterfly spreads its wings and flys away.

The darkness starts to cover the sky with a thick blanket. Looking around I find a massive oak tree.

Using my wings I hop up into the tree and feel the rough bark under my toes. "Emily?"

I watch as Alex looks around with worried eyes. "Yes." I say in a chirpy sounding voice and he raise his head to look at me.

I walk across the tree slowly with my arms stretched out to the side of me. My wings brush up against the tree every so often as I hear Alex take a sharp breath.

I hop and spin around landing perfectly balanced on the limp of the oak tree. "You should probably get down from there." I turn my head to find a scared expression plastered on his face.

"Why?" I sit down on the wood with my legs hanging down. "Because it's dangerous." He walks closer and his gaze never wavers from mine.

"Your dangerous but I still stick around." He frowns as a playful laugh passes my lips; lifting my head I look up at the stars as a smile spread across my face.

The stars remind me of home. The beautiful stars used to light up the sky and dance with the moon. The moon would smile and glow brightly from the inky blackness of the sky.

Home...........

I hear Alex sigh before a thud can be heard. I look down to find him sitting down on the ground and leaning up against the tree trunk.

A few leaves from trees fall as the warm air brushes over my exposed skin. A owl hoots from the distance making me snap my head up and look at a large hole from across the space.

Two brown eyes stare at me as its head does a three hundred and sixty turn that is followed by another hoot.

The wind hisses through the holes in trees as the moon cast shadows on the earth.

The sound of rushing water fills my ears as I lean my back up against the tree. The tough bark sticking into my back.

"Emily?" Alex's rich silky voice reaches my ears as I turn my head. "Yes." I reply as silence fills the space between us.

"Can you come down here." I hear him almost whisper as a stick breaks from under one of his hands.

I drop down from the tree quickly and stare at his large figure in the dark. I see his eyes glint in the moon light as something flashes across them.

Confusion fills my thoughts as I stare down at the once confident man replaced with a vulnerable looking boy.

My stomach clenches as I look upon his face. "Please sit with me." He whispers quietly so only I can hear it.

I nod slowly go to sit right next to him by the oak tree. Its bark stabbing me in the back.

I feel him move ever so slightly and before I know it his fingers lace around mine; his warm fingers make my hand hot.

Then he pulls me close to his body and I tuck myself under his arm and feel his warmth cover my body.

His steady heart beat fills my ear as I press my head to his chest. He holds me and kisses me softly on the top of he head.

He traces small designs on my arm as I close my eyes and take in his musky scent.

"Why did you act so mean before." I whisper softly and I feel the designs on my and stop.

"I'm sorry." He says as he tightens his hold on me.

I close my eyes as I realize that's the only answer I will get.

The grass tickles tickles the bottom of my feet as I curl up closer to Alex's warm body.

With a small smile on my face.

As I feel my breathing even out I hear a soft.

"I'm sorry."
