I am so sorry, this was supposed to be fluff I swear...my hand slipped

Tw: Death, blood, shooting, gun

Florida and Louie were walking home together, side by side
Louie had his arm around Florida's waist.

They were just coming back from the most spectacular date.

A movie, dinner, arson, and a proposal. Couldn't be more perfect.

Florida was happy beyond belief, leaning in closer to Louie as they made their way back to the car. Nothing could be better then tonight.

Funny, isn't it, how it only takes one second for everything to go so wrong.

How one, small, little action, can end a life, taking away years and years and reducing them to nothing. Merely what ifs of things that could have been.

In only one, small, insignificant second, Florida's world shattered.

And all it took was a shot. The sudden noise ringing through the air, disturbing the quiet night.

Further broken by Louie's scream.

He could feel a warm liquid trickle down his arm.

"Louie?!"

He steadied him, placing a hand on his side "You-"

He pulled it away, staring in horror at the blood staining his hand.

"I'm so sorry!..."

Florida turned his head to see the shooter. The gun in their hand was shaking violently, terror filling their eyes. They couldn't have been more than sixteen..just a kid..

"I-...I didn't mean-..."

They turned tail and ran, their footsteps echoing through the streets.

Florida turned his attention back to Louie, wrapping a sweater around his waist and applying pressure, trying to slow his bleeding. He helped him hobble towards the car.

"It's ok, you'll be ok, we don't...we don't die, we just need to get you to the hospital-"

Florida stopped dead (hehe puns) in his tracks, taking in the sight before him. His car was being towed away.
Seriously?? This can't be happening, not now! I mean sure he had bad luck, but can't the universe spare him? Just this one time?

"That's...ok... it's ok... I'll just...call an ambulance"

He pulls out his phone

Dead. Of FUCKING COURSE IT IS. Right when he needs to to keep Louie safe!

"It's ok...just..gotta get to a payphone.."

Florida tries not to focus on how much blood Louisiana has lost, his face becoming paler by the second, and instead focuses on the payphone, only a block away..just gotta..get there in time. Louie won't die, they can't die....right..?

Halfway there and Louie looks up at him, expression way to solemn. It was weird, seeing it on the other states face, and it had a final look about it that Florida really didn't want to think about

"I'm not-" he coughs, hacking up blood "I'm not gonna make it Sha.."

Florida felt panic seize him

"Don't say that! You will! We're... we're not supposed to die... remember?"

"Hey.. It's ok, I'm glad I could be with you.." he gives him a soft, sad smile and Florida hates it. Absolutely hates it. He can't die on him! There's so much more they need to do! They are supposed to grow old together! Get married! It's can't end!

Tears sting at his eyes. Applying more pressure to the sweater wrapped around Louie's middle, he speeds up.

"You'll be ok we're almost at the payphone you just need to hold on a little longer"

Why was no one else around?! There's always someone around! They were in the middle of a city! It's like the universe wanted Louie to die!

They finally reach the payphone.

Florida sets Louie down on the bench and starts dialing. His hands shake badly, and he's pretty sure the entire phone is covered in blood, but he manages to press the numbers. He listens as it rings, slow, and monotone, as Louisiana's condition gets rapidly worse.
He didn't dare let himself think about what happens if Louie dies. He couldn't imagine it, a world without his best friend, his fiance, would be hell. Plain and simple. And not a world he would want to stay in.

He glances over at Louie, who was mumbling to himself getting delirious from the blood loss, blinking slowly. He looked as if at any moment those eyes would stay closed forever.

"C'mon... C'mon...pick up..."

After a few more minutes, they finally picks up. Florida explains everything, trying his best not to let his voice shake, or to get choked up

"Alright sir, they're on the way now, please hang tight"

A familiar tune catches his ear.
It's Louie.
He can't quite place it until his fiancblood..looks over at Florida with a smile, and starts to sing the words, best he can, what with being shot and all, doesn't really do wonders for your singing voice.

"Louie what are you-"

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine

ears start flowing down his cheeks "Louie please don't- they'll be here soon-"

Louie doesn't seem to register that he's speaking. He reaches a trembling, blood soaked hand up to Florida's cheek, who instinctively leans into it, tears mixing with blood.

You make me happy

He goes into another hacking fit, Florida leans forward, hoping to god, any god, that this wasn't it..he was meant for so much more!

When skies are grey
You'll never know dear

"It's ok, you'll be ok, they'll be here soon... you'll be ok.. please..stay with me.."

How much I love you

"Please...just five more minutes please!"

Louie gives him one last sad smile as he sings the last line
Pain and regret fill Florida to the brim...he can't go...not yet...

Please don't take...my sunshine..away

He stops singing, going eerily silent as the last note rings out, bittersweet. Full of sorrow and love and years stolen away, of memories that should be theirs but are never to be made.

Florida chokes on his tears "..Louie..?"

He looks at him, his eyes meeting with blank, lifeless ones

"LOUIE?!"

Florida picks him up, checking for pulse, breath, ANYTHING! Anything that could show he was still alive! He had to be!

He checks over and over, refusing to accept reality. This couldn't be it...

His heart shatters, and drops down to his feet.

"Louie..."

He hugs him close and sobs endlessly, not stopping till long after he was taken away by paramedics. Continuing to cry each night long after his body had been buried until all that was left, was nothing.
