"So are you straight?" Oscar asked at the outside table that night as I glanced at Ali who was trying to ladle even amounts of soup into bowls before turning back to him

"Why?"

"Curious"

"You're curious for a reason"

"Are you?"

"I'm straight up dead inside" I told him as he stayed still, staring at me as his eyes widened slightly and he glanced away as seats started to get filled in around the table

"...yikes"

"What?"

"Nothing. Nothing at all"

"Lying bastard"

"I heard that!"

"You were meant to you nitwit" I told him as we stared at each other as he looked away amused as I felt a hand on my shoulder as I turned my head, Nathan sitting down next to me as I looked at mum

"Sorry?"

"I hadn't said anything yet" she told me amused as a small smile grew on my face and I looked at her expectantly

"I'll be away again for a couple more days but I'll be back definitely by the end of the week"

"But you've already been gone continuously for over a week and a half now"

"I know but there's a lot that I'm needing to sort out right now, okay? I'll be back soon"

"When is it you're leaving?"

"Just after supper" she told me as I stared at her, nodding unhappily as she gave me a sad smile, a kiss on the top of my head as I mumbled slightly before looking at me with a grin

"You'll be alright. These pricks will be here the whole time anyway"

"I heard that"

"I know you did" she told Nathan as he turned to her with a grin as she walked over to the other end of the table as she sat down next to Holly and I looked at Nathan who was just turning away, looking at me with a smile

"What?"

"Nothing"

"Thought so. Why do you look so bothered?"

"When mum goes that means Holly's going to lose her filter completely and stay as the snarky bitch she has been these last few days" I mumbled as I filled my glass with apple juice as Nathan filled his with firewhiskey as a small smile grew on my face and I was passed a bowl of soup as I smiled at Ali

"Well even if she does try that I'll just tell her to shut the fuck up, and so will Adam and Ali. And Jayden-"

"Jayden will do his best to avoid getting involved"

"I suppose you're right. Give me a minute" Turning the other way I let out a quiet sigh before looking to his glass and then to him as I quickly took it, downing it in one before putting it back and filling it with some apple juice from my own glass, it looking the exact same as I glanced around and caught Ali's eye as I nodded to him, watching as he sat there trying to contain his laughter
