The car slipped in the rain, causing Lyric to jump from her seat. "Rory!"

"Sorry, sorry!" Rory gripped the steering wheel tighter and slowed the car down. It had been three hours since Lyric had said goodbye to Allan. She still felt his arms wrapped around her.

Lyric sighed, and rested her head against the back of her seat. "Why do we have to move, again?"

As if planned, both Rory and Lillith sighed. "Lyric, we've been over this. I was offered a job in Arkansas, and you know how we're low on money. I need this job, sweetie." Rory placed a hand on Lyric's lap, but she just shoved it off.

"I don't want to move." She muttered.

"We know," Lillith butted in. "but it's not exactly your choice. We need this job, and you can't stop us from living our life."

"Lillith, I didn't think it was possible, but your even more immature than I am." Lyric turned around so she could see the red-faced woman who called herself a mother. Lillith was never really fond of Lyric.

"Both of you, stop!" Rory's voice echoed around in the car. Lyric huffed and slammed her head into the back of her seat. She heard Lillith chuckle.

The ride went on like this, Lyric making little mistakes and Lillith being sure to point them out.

"Rory, I'm hungry." Lyric stated as they turned into the freeway.

"We'll stop for food in a little bit."

"'Kay." The rain had stopped for a while, so Lyric slid her I-pod out of her bag. The setting was on shuffle, and A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton started playing. Lyric smiled as a memory of Allan sneaked into her head.

"Lyric!" Allan spun around as Lyric entered the living room. "Watch this!" Allan turned on the flat screen TV, and plugged in the karaoke machine. Once he set a song to play, he turned to Lyric and got down on one knee. Lyric started laughing hysterically as Allan started singing.

"If I could fall! Into the sky....do you think time...would pass me by? Ohh cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles if I could Just....See....You......Tonight!" When he sang 'tonight' he got up and took Lyric's hand. He twirled her underneath his arm and they both fell down, laughing.

"You always were a horrible singer." Lyric giggled.

"Hey, you know you love it." Allan jumped on top of Lyric and pinned her to the ground.

"Allan, get off of me!"

"Say I'm a good singer!"

"Allan!"

"Yes?"

"Okay, you're a good singer!" Lyric gave in.

"Thank you." Allan slid off of her and they both stood up.

Lyric smiled and continued her answer, "You're a good singer, compared to your dad."

Allan grinned and said, "Yeah, he is a pretty bad singer."

Lyric laughed, but then screamed as Allan started chasing her. "Allan!"

"What?"

"You know I'm a terrible runner!"

"Yeah, that's why I'm chasing you!" Allan caught Lyric and he was on top of her again, but instead of black mailing her, they were both screaming with laughter.

Lyric snapped out of the memory when the song ended. She took out her phone and stared at Allan's number. He would be out of school by now, right? She texted him, hoping he would respond.

Hey Allan.... She waited for a couple minutes until her phone vibrated against her leg.

Lyric!

What's up? Another three minutes until,

Nuthin, just missin u Lyric laughed. Even though her and Allan were never a couple, he always acted really flirty with her.

Aww, your so sweet, lol

well, u kno me. Are you almost to Arkansas?

Lyric looked at the time, 5:04. "Rory, are we almost there?

"About another hour, Lyric." Lyric answered Allan. Right away, he responded to her.

Really? I hope Lillith isn't buggin u too much

Not a lot. Hey, where are you? Lyric just remembered how Allan didn't have a place to stay.

I'm staying in the dorms until I can afford my own apartment.

Omg, you're staying with the teenage mongrels?!

.....Shut up Lyric laughed, causing Rory to look over. "Seems like you're in a good mood. Who are you talking to?"

"Allan."

"Ah, the two love birds."

"We're not love birds!" Lyric glared at Rory. "You should know that, of all people."

"Okay, okay. I'm just glad your not upset anymore." Rory smiled and returned his attention to the road. "We're gonna pull up to get some food in about three minutes."

"Sweet!" Lyric opened her phone and told Allan she had to go.

Okay, well text me later, okay?

Got it When she closed her phone, the car pulled up to a Wendy's drive through.

"What do you want, Kiddo?" Rory stared at the order board.

"Um, how 'bout, the chicken special."

Rory spoke into the microphone, "Two number 3 meals, and a number 5, all with coke."

"Anything else?" The worker replied.

"Nope, that's it."

"Your total is $24.53, please pull up to the window." the car lurked forward, and Lyric was handed her food.

"Sweet, thanks." She unwrapped her sandwich and took a huge bite, squirting mayonnaise down her chin.

"Here," Rory handed her a napkin.

Lyric took it and wiped her face. It took her a couple minutes to finish her entire meal and shove the trash into her food bag.

"Lyric, wake up!" Rory's voice woke Lyric from her sleep.

"What?"

"We're here!" Rory stepped out of the car, motioning for Lyric to follow. Lyric stepped out, feeling woozy from being in the car for so long.

The house was huge, with two garage doors and railings leading up to the front door. Lyric stepped inside and was awestruck. It was beautiful! Polished, wooden floors, a winding staircase leading upstairs, and an enormous room with furniture already placed on the floor.

"Your room is up there," Rory pointed up the spiral staircase. "third door to the right." Lyric got a better grip on her bag and ran up the stairs.

"One, two, three!" She counted the doors, and burst into the third one. "No, way!"

The room was decorated in dark shades of purple and blacks. Her bedposts were a deep black, while her covers were different shades of purple. The walls were light lilac, and the windows were draped with dark purple shades.

"Do you like it?" Rory placed the rest of Lyric's bags in her doorway.

"I, I love it! It's perfect!" She ran up to Rory and attacked him with a hug. "Absolutely perfect."

"I'm glad you like it. I was worried it would be too girly for your taste."

"Not at all!" Lyric jumped onto her bed and felt herself sink into the blankets.

Rory smiled as he turned around and retreated down the steps. Maybe this move wouldn't be so bad after all.
