Chapter 40 - Nothing Will Happen 🔥🔥🔥

Start from the beginning

"What? Why would we bring Jungkook into this mess?" Namjoon was trying hard to stay respectful, and yet you could see the frustration painted onto his expression.

"Because.. my dear boy, Jungkook is about to release his solo album. The publicity will do wonders for his debut, and make him seem more approachable.. well considering his album is to be called 'Girlfriend'."

My head was spinning, I had no idea how the maknae was even dragged into this conversation.

Wouldn't all the Jungkook fans kill themselves if he started dating someone who was already involved with his other bandmates?

"Sir, wouldn't the album sell better if the  songs were perceived by the fans as about themselves? Like what it would be like if their boyfriend was Jungkook, and he wrote songs to them?" Namjoon was being a leader again. A role I had often forgot he had. His voice and points were all business, and yet I knew he was saying these things to protect me. He knew I was the most vulnerable in this situation.

"That's true," PD nim finally said. "but I think the 'single and available' angle has been played out by the group in general. I mean look at Taylor Swift? Everyone runs to buy her new album to see which boyfriend or ex she wrote about. This... this might actually work."

"Of course it will work, it's my job to make sure it does." Smirked the publicist ahjushi. "We can make sure any interviewers are banned from asking Jungkook directly about his girlfriend, but I'm sure he can brush it off anyways. It will add to the suspense."

As these men in suits discuss my 'private' life with no intention of including me in this decision, I sat there thinking about one thing and one thing only.

The promise I made to Hanna not too long ago.

"Nothing will ever happen between me and him."

One thing I had requested, after being dragged into this publicity nightmare, was that I be the one to tell Hoseok. Before any of the managers break the news, or have the other members find out. Surprisingly, they all agreed to it, despite wanting to control every aspect of this facade. Be it how it's announced, the fake and staged photo of us 'getting caught' on a date, and whether or not I could be seen in public with anyone else but Jungkook.

I ran back to the meeting room I was pulled out of with RM and found the remaining members and managers spilling out as the briefing concluded.

"We need to talk." I blurted, not knowing how else to start this conversation. Considering the cliche that nothing good ever comes after these four words, all the other members stared at us precariously. Hoseok just smiled knowingly and led me to spare meeting room. Like the rest of the band, Hoseok had heard what happened between Namjoon and me, and figured we needed somewhere private to discuss.

This was one of the many small meeting rooms I had never been in. A white board for presentation faced a table that could seat 6. We would have been completely unseen by anyone outside if it wasn't for the half frosted glass on the door to the right of the board.

"First of all, I'm so so sorry to put you through this." I grabbed his hand and squeezed it, hoping my sincerity translated well into my voice.

Cupping my cheek, Hoseok smiled and pulled me into his embrace, giving me a much needed hug. "You're way too sweet you know that? Worrying about me, even though this is all happening to you?"

I clung onto torso, reciprocating his warmth and reassurance. I was trying hard not to break down in front of him. I needed to be the strong one right now.

Hoseok kissed my forehead as it was nestled over his collarbone, before speaking again. "Are you okay?"

I nodded vigorously within his hug and took a deep breath, exhaling a sigh to release the tension in my shoulders.
