"Not bad Cinderella.." the rapper said as he slowly pulled back into a smirk. "Not bad at all."
And without meaning to, I was all flustered. His crooked smile, arrogant and proud, made me feel inexplicable things. Our eyes met for a little too long and I quickly looked away, suddenly self conscious.
"So.. about what you said earlier.." wanting to fill the silence, I abruptly said the first thing that came to mind.
Tilting his head, Yoongi was presenting a clueless farce. "What do you mean?"
"You know exactly what I mean." Adding a 'no-nonsense' element to my voice. A part of me was still longing for his touch. The way he left me hanging and wanting to devour him outside by the gazebo.
Catching on to my intention, Yoongi's signature smirk coyly winked at me as he evaded my question. He let the silence drape over us like an oversized hoodie, slowly leaning in to kiss. The arrogance never leaving his smile. It was soft and gentle, like the dusting of sugar on freshly baked donuts.
"Sunbae," I said, my bashful laughter was high pitched and quivered. It didn't sound like my laugh. I sounded like a five year old girl. A stupid five year old girl. "You can't just kiss your way out of this."
Touching my lips one more time, he suavely whispered.
"But your lips are so damn kissable."
You have got to be kidding me.
I was trying hard to roll my eyes at such a cheesy line, but the butterflies that were fighting to escape my stomach kind of made that very hard to do.
Looking away to hide my face, even though his royal cockiness would have already known, I was desperate to not let him see his effect on me. "Sunbae, answer the question. What do you mean you had a 'Jihye' once?"
"It means just that." He said without emotion. Like he had trained himself to disassociate any feeling to this part of his past.
I didn't know what else to say. Crossing my legs, I sat there silently as my feet ached from the lack of comfort in my heels, unbearably aware of this heavy baggage he was carrying.
Yoongi leant back against his side of the car and pulled out more components of a joint. He meticulously grinded the bud taken from the engraved metallic container, and took his time to roll a tightly packed stick. Only after he was safistified with the taste of the finish product did he start talking again.
"Do you believe in love, Y/N?"
"Oh, umm.." slightly caught off guard, I had to quickly gather my words. I didn't expect such a straightforward question. But then again, it's Yoongi. "Well yeah, I do.. I mean it's not Santa Claus."
"It might as well be." He scoffed dryly.
"You're joking right?" I asked, shocked. He's written songs about something he considers make believe. Good songs too. Just imagine the music he'd create if he actually believed in them.
My rhetorical question was given the dirtiest side eye, before he released another intoxicating exhale. The lack of emotion and feeling his gaze gave me chills.
"I mean, to me.. Love isn't the fireworks and love hearts you see in movies and music videos, you know?" Gazing out the window, the sentences just started forming. "Don't get me wrong, it can be. But it's about choosing to care for the other person each day, and growing as individuals to be better.. Because you know you don't deserve the other person. And of course, the fireworks and hearts will be there some days, but.... other days it will be hard to love them, and you keep trying anyways, because you know they would do the same.."
