XXXVI - AMERICAN GOTHIC

   Willoughby, Pennsylvania. It wasn't the type of place Audrey ever expected to find Katherine Pierce in. When they left Mystic Falls, she and Elijah had gone back to New York for a while, making plans to travel somewhere new in the world. They were preparing to leave when Katherine reached out to them, saying meeting with her would be worth their while. When she finally admitted it had something to do with the cure, despite how they were trying to stay out of everything, their interest was piqued. Both of them wanted to know how Katherine had managed to be the one to get her hands on it. Audrey knew she could easily find out, just by simply making a call to Caroline, but she'd had her phone off since they'd left. She decided that day, she needed a clean break. 

   It was nice, being disconnected from Mystic Falls, from the people within it. Of course, there was people she missed. The main person being Caroline, but the Forbes girl knew this was something she needed to do. 

   "France." Elijah pulled Audrey out of her thoughts, their hands laced together as they walked toward the meeting point. "Once we're through with this, why not make that our next destination?"

   "I've never been." Audrey said softly, a smile tugging at her lips that made him smile. "I trust you'd show me everything it has to offer."

   "Only the best for you." He said wholeheartedly, before kissing her softly. 

   Audrey smiled against his lips, before reluctantly pulling away. She glanced ahead, spotting Katherine stood pacing inside the gazebo. "Come on, let's get this over with."

   With a nod, he took her hand once more, and the pair made their way over to the older doppelganger. "Katerina."

   Katherine spun on her heel to face them, looking slightly stunned. "Elijah. Audrey." Clearing her throat, she pulled herself together. "You're a little late, aren't you?"

   Something was wrong. Audrey felt it instantly, narrowing her eyes on Katherine carefully. "This is an interesting little town you've chosen to settle down in." Elijah commented, raising a brow at her. "So do you have it with you?"

   She looked confused. "Do I have what?"

   "The cure."

   Then Audrey spotted it. The blue ring resting on her finger, instead of the bracelet she always wore. The hesitance on her face, the confusion on her voice, it all made sense as the pieces clicked into place. "It's in a safe place. Why don't I go and get it and I'll bring it back?"

   Before she could walk away, Audrey grabbed her wrist, tugging so they were face to face. "Katherine can pull you off very easily. You, on the other hand, can't pull her off." She gave her a flat look. "What are you doing here, Elena?"

   The look dropped from her face, and Elena smirked slightly. "Nice to see you too, Rey."
