Chapter Thirteen: H'chakde

H'chakde was overtaken by panic as he ran to the fallen ooman. He prayed to paya that she was still breathing, and he was more than thankful to see the rising and falling of her chest. She was.

He let out a sigh of relief and kneeled next to her to examine her wounds. Three long gashes ran from just under her milk glands diagonally to her side. The beast had slung her very far, she no doubt would have at least a couple of broken bones. Nothing that the ships medic couldn't handle.

H'chakde scooped her up in his arms carefully. Taking his time to make sure she was secure before he began bolting back to the ship. He would come back for their kills once he knew the ooman was safe. Although he wouldn't have cared if she died, he didn't want it to be because of his own incompetence.

Upon reaching the ship, he placed her down gently on the co-pilot seat. Once again checking for signs she was still alive. When he saw that she indeed was still breathing, he bolted back out of the ship. Heading straight back toward where their kills were. The action taking him less time then it had before, thanks to him not being slowed down by the ooman.

He grabbed up his kill and slung it over his shoulder before he began surveying the area. His eyes landed on the creature the ooman had killed. Curiosity pushing him to walk over to it almost immediately. A sense of pride filling his chest when he found the knife plunged deep into it's skull.

He was impressed with the little ooman. Despite her having been injured and close to blacking out she was still able to take down the thing that had harmed her. All in one blow.

His pride turned to anger quickly however, as he realized she had disobeyed his orders. If she had done so, She wouldn't have been hurt. But even then part of him reluctantly admitted that, he also would have probably perished.

H'chakde let out a frustrated growl as he stood. Grabbing up her kill as well and slinging it over his shoulder. Despite his displeasure with her, this was her kill. She had all rights to take a trophy from it if she wished to. It was better than leaving it out here to rot. With one last survey of the clearing he began walking back toward the ship.

H'chakde sat in the medical bay, near where his ooman was laying. She had been stitched up by Larja-Thwei, who stood not too far away from the two. His attention fixated on studying the X-rays he had taken of the ooman.

"If you continue to injure you ooman this frequently, I'll have a full body X-ray of her in very little time." He commented not bothering to look up from the picture before him. H'chakde shook his head, suppressing a growl.

"I did not mean for her to get injured." H'chakde said glancing the ooman. "This happened because she disobeyed me, I'll let it be a lesson as to what happens if she disobeys." H'chakde folded his arms as he continued to watch the unconscious ooman.

Her bare chest rose and fell rythmically as she slept. He reasoned she would probably need new garments when she woke. Although the yautja didn't mind nudity, he knew she would go nuts until she had gotten something to cover herself.

"Call for me when she wakes." H'chakde said standing up and turning toward the door. "I have things I need to do." He walked out leaving Larj-Thwei with the ooman. He had a feeling the medic wouldn't mind him leaving her there. If there was anymore X-rays he wanted to get of her, now would be the time to do so.

H'chakde exited the medical wing and headed for his own quarters. Where he knew the creatures they had killed would be laying.

He would try his best to fashion her some kind of clothes from her kills hide. It wouldn't be anything fancy, just something simple to cover her. Maybe dressing her in something different from her home planet would aide in his goal.

Upon entering his room, H'chakde made haste of stripping the antlers from his kill and setting them aside. He began skinning the creature, fully planning on taking it's meat to the dining hall. The cook would have more use of it then he would for sure.

He hesitated a moment when he turned to the ooman's kill. H'chakde knew full well that skinning her kill would be difficult for the ooman. Especially with her being injured.

H'chakde growled to himself. The ooman wouldn't have been hurt if she had just followed his instructions. So he decided on leaving it for her to deal with when she woke up. She was really frustrating to him to no end. He gathered up the meat he had set aside and began making his way to the dining hall.

He knew that she no doubt was looking to annoy him. It was almost as if she was privy to the fact the H'chakde was unable to retaliate against her. Physically anyway, he could roar at her all her wanted to. But even then it never seemed to do anything.

H'chakde had to admit that part of him admired her bravery. It seemed no matter how much he shouted at her she never seemed to give in. Although her bravery had begun grazing the line of stupidity. Another part of him found it very, very irritating.

"You must learn to grow wise H'chakde." He could almost hear his father say to him. "Your patience leaves much to be desired, and when hunting that can get you killed."

H'chakde had always shook his head and scoffed at that. He had made it this far hadn't he? Still, there was some truth to his father's words. Maybe they had reared their ugly head back into his conscious mind for a reason.

H'chakde passed all the tables of the dining room and toward the back. Handing off the slabs of meat to one of the cooks, before turning on his heel and heading back to his room.

His father's words seemed to play on loop in his head. Making it hard for H'chakde to try and push them out of the forefront of his mind and back into his subconscious. They were becoming annoying.

He hoped however that maybe he would be able to drown them out with his work. He was too weary to go to the training ground, so he finalized on polishing up his trophies as a substitute.

As soon as he entered his room again he practically pounced on the bones. More than eager to silence the voice in his head. He was content with trying to figure out why his father's words had reappeared to him later. Much, much later.

H'chakde was in the middle of hanging his trophies when a rapping at the door pulled him out of his concentration. "Come in" He called not taking his eyes from his work. Even as he heard the door open and the sound of someone entering the room.

"Your ooman has awakened finally." H'chakde turned to momentarily meet the eyes of the Lar'ja-Thwei. "I would like her out of the way, I have other to attend to and i've gotten all the X-rays I need for now." He said a hint of annoyance to his tone. H'chakde nodded in response, he could understand his frustration. Since he himself didn't like dealing with the ooman either.

H'chakde followed Lar'ja-Thwei out of his room and toward the medical wing to collect his servant. He could finish what little work he had later, he needed to finish tending to her first.
