Wise Spending

Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.        Proverbs 19:14

Being prudent doesn't mean being cheap. It does mean being careful and thrifty. Some people are brought up to be savers, though, while others are spenders. A saver who falls into sudden money will still be a saver. A spender who goes bust will spend whatever he has.

A couple that is mismatched in their financial philosophy is headed for trouble. This isn't something we usually think about when we fall in love and contemplate marriage, but it should be. After dating someone for months, you should have some idea of how he or she handles money. You're not looking for a perfect match. A person who is a little too cheap might do well to marry one who spends a little more freely, and vice versa. What you need is a person more or less like you, but different within tolerable limits.

In the end, you and your spouse will decide what is prudent, given your circumstances, so be sure you agree about your priorities.

Lord, help me spend my money wisely, and give me a mate who shares my thoughts on this subject so we don't fall into the trap of arguing about money and its uses.
