I Have Good Intentions

Let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

Unless you plan to live of a hermit, this verse is going to give you problems. We live in a thoroughly contaminated world where it's difficult to be even a little holy, let alone perfectly holy.

Start with the most important fact, though: Your sins have already been forgiven. How do you thank someone for saving your life now and forever? By trying to be what He wants you to be. No, you are not going to do it perfectly. Yes, you will still sin. But you will steer clear of situations that God disapproves of. You will treat your body as the holy temple of God, who lives in you. You will treat others the way you want to be treated. It's a start, anyway, and this is one case where good intentions do count.

Father, I can never live my life in total holiness, but I can show my thankfulness and reverence for You in many ways. Help me live my life in a way that will reflect Your glory and mercy and eternal love.
